As a trauma-focused and IFS-informed therapist, my goal is to help you find a sense of peace from the pressures of the world.
You want to stop pleasing others and start putting yourself first, but it feels like everything is spiralling out of control. In your relationships, your job, your personal life... Maybe it's hard to remember a time when it didn't feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you're ready for some relief. You want to have more control over your emotions and feel respected in your relationships, so you can face the future with hope.

I am a strong believer in that systemic oppression correlates with trauma.
It has been tough, and getting support can be overwhelming. This is a big step to take, and I would be honoured to support you as you identify your needs and achieve your goals. I provide therapy to adults, seniors and couples in a safe and judgement-free space.

I draw from strength-based, recovery-centered, trauma-informed and client-centered approaches.
I work with adults (18+yrs) who are challenged by depression, stress, anxiety, and/or trauma. I am particularly experienced in working with those who are struggling with relationships, poor self-confidence/self-esteem, addiction/substance use recovery, burnout, loss and/or grief, or adjusting to major life transitions (e.g., divorce, career, parenthood, retirement). Being a nurse also makes me uniquely positioned to help support others who work in healthcare. So many of my clients are nurses or other health care professionals who are struggling with work-life balance, burnout, or emotional challenges in their personal lives.

Approaching with a trauma informed lens, we will draw on Internal Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Self-Compassion and more.
I work with people who experience intense emotions with the aim of coming to understand these feelings as not only real, but also important, valid, and meaningful. Generally, this includes teens (13+), young adults, adults, and parents who are hoping to work toward managing their feelings in a way that allows them to interact with the world, and their loved ones, more effectively. As someone who focuses on this area of feelings work I have developed strong skills working with anxiety, BPD, ADHD, trauma, and grief, as these areas are often interconnected. Clients often describe me as warm, kind, and (at least a little bit) funny.

We all confront difficult challenges in life. We all go through times when our deepest fears and insecurities surface and consume our thoughts and actions, while our strengths and values fade out of focus and out of reach. We may be flooded with unwanted and worrisome thoughts; experience intense negative emotions; feel lonely and isolated from others, become increasingly unmotivated and unproductive; and develop difficulties sleeping, concentrating, and finding fulfillment in life. If you are going through a period of suffering, this is part of what makes you human.

As your therapist, I want you to feel comfortable coming to sessions as you are. Every part of you is accepted here, even the parts that are in pain, the parts that are sad, and the parts you haven't spoken to in a while. All of you is welcome. This space is yours to come as your authentic self, while we work towards crafting the changes in your life that you want to see. My role is to offer you complete acceptance during this process. When I say there is no part of you that is "too much", I mean it with sincerity.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
