Are you struggling with anxiety or depression? Do you deal with ADHD, ASD, LD, or ODD? Is your child (10+) struggling with any of these concerns? Is your child transitioning from grade school to high school? Or high school to post-secondary? I deeply appreciate the opportunity to support people in learning about themselves, their strengths and ways to self-advocate for meeting their needs and goals. Working in special education has given me strategies and abilities to work with individuals addressing anxiety, school and peer-related issues, self-esteem, and executive functioning challenges.

You handle a LOT in your life, but it's starting to take its toll on your mental wellbeing. I can help you navigate this concern, while improving your relationship with yourself and with others (i.e. romantic, professional, etc). I'm best known for supporting strong independent women who want more out of life or know that something has to change.

We all need support in navigating life’s hardships, which can leave us feeling stuck, alone and overwhelmed. I strive to create a safe, caring, collaborative and supportive environment for you to explore life’s hardships, while also encouraging you to recognize your strengths. It is important for me to create connection, understanding, compassion, empathy and self-growth in your therapeutic experience. My goal is to support you in developing tools and coping strategies, while also digging deeper to create understanding of the underlying origin of patterns and themes within your life that are no longer serving you.

You’re doing all the ‘right’ things to feel better but no matter what you do you’re still feeling out of sorts. Trauma leaves us feeling broken, damaged, and disconnected from our true selves. You feel discouraged that you might not be able to get back to living your life the way you want to. You’re anxious and people notice your ‘bad mood’ which makes you feel guilty for not ‘being better’ for those around you. You’re here which means you want to try something different. You CAN do this.

Hi, My name is Lisa and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) in Ontario. I completed my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University. I believe everyone can benefit from talking about life’s triumphs and challenges. Therapy can be a wonderful option, no matter the level of need. To maintain normalcy, control, and comfort in one’s life or to work through some of life's most difficult experiences. Early childhood development is also very important, and I enjoy helping families develop positive, supportive relationships with their children and their partners.

With previous work experience in different environments, I have been exposed to the complexities of life, which has developed my belief that change, growth and healing is possible if individuals are supported with compassion, empathy, and non-judgement. This belief has become my therapeutic approach, along with recognizing and valuing that each client is unique, making the therapy process unique.

It can be difficult trying to cope with distressing times on your own. Sometimes friends and family can only help so much. My role is to give you caring, non-judgmental support so that you can make sense of your emotions and gain a clearer picture of how your past plays a role in your current relationships. You will begin by telling me about yourself and the reasons why you've come to therapy and then we can explore together new ways of reflecting and interacting that will lead to a more fulfilling life.

It's understandable to feel overwhelmed or shut down when life is hard; situations difficult and relationships confusing. We usually cannot control our outside experiences, at times making it hard to cope. I work with people who want to enhance their ability to respond to life’s challenges with greater ease, confidence, and knowing. I support individuals to overcome relationship challenges, difficult feelings, anxiety and depression, self harm, and trauma. I will gently guide you through a process of discussion and reflection to promote understanding and awareness as you develop skills to foster change.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
