At times, many of us contend with emotions and suffering that are overwhelmingly painful, disheartening and difficult to bear, often as a result of unique stressors and events. I work with adults, adolescents, families and step-families using Emotionally Focused Therapy, EMDR, interpersonal psychotherapy, and DBT/CBT within neuroscience and attachment frameworks. I encouraged clients to access inner strengths and free their capacity for growth. Whether you or a family member experience depression, anxiety, marital distress or difficulties with peers, you deserve support in a confidential, accepting, safe and caring environment.

Trauma is concretely defined as an emotional response to a terrible event, however this definition does not encompass all of the undertakings you may be experiencing. Trauma can occur from family generations, a close friend's experience, or seeing something on the media that affects us deeply. Your trauma will not look the same as another person's and that's okay. If you are looking to process and heal from the heavy weight of trauma, through a collaborative effort, I can help you unpack your story to be able to move forward.

“Lost”, “Stuck”, “Overwhelmed”, are these words you would use to describe your life? Do you feel like you're standing still while others are passing you by, but you don’t know how or where to move forward? Life throws us many difficult challenges, especially when in our teens and early adulthood. Young people today are faced with balancing pressures from family, friends, school, work, and society, all while trying to find a path in life. Trying to navigate the stress coming at you from multiple angles can lead to feelings of anxiety, depression, and can make it hard to have good relationships.

Thank you for looking at my profile. It means you have taken the first step towards self care. Looking for a way to take care of your Mental, Emotional and Spiritual Self. Good for you! Now imagine your true self. The authentic you. Free from all the burdens you've been carrying. It is possible to be that self again. Together we will uncover and work through whatever you need to, to live the life you want. As we experience life, we sometimes struggle & suffer & build defences & adaptive behaviours to help us cope. Later on, these ways of being no longer serve us well and we want to free ourselves of them but find it too challenging.

Life is a journey: it has a beginning; it has an end. The journey between these two points can take us on many different paths. The path we travel is uniquely our own. No other person encounters the world quite the way we do. The most important aspect of our lives is the journey within, one which is often overlooked until a time of crisis and deep, personal pain, or when one is driven by personal circumstances to become introspective and evaluate their lives.

Congratulations, you have taken the first step towards healing! Recognizing that you need support on this path of healing is the first of many milestones. When situations occur in our lives, whether in the past or present, naturally as human beings we begin to feel depressed, anxious, isolated, and etc. Simple day-to-day activities, which were once like second nature, have become very difficult. Perhaps days, months or even years have gone by and you still feel “stuck” – if this sounds familiar, we can work together to learn how to cope and live with a new reality.

How does therapy for chronic illness work?
Many people living with a chronic illness may feel they cannot speak honestly about their experience out of embarrassment or fear of being a burden, or because those close to them do not understand, for example, that they may “look good” even if they do not feel good. Therapy sessions are an opportunity to speak openly with someone who knows their symptoms are not in their head and who can offer practical, proven suggestions for managing feelings of grief, shame, or fatigue, such as techniques to challenge unhelpful thoughts about symptoms and develop new ways to respond to them, such as distraction or calming breathing practices.
Can therapy help with physical symptoms of chronic illness?
Yes, especially if an individual with chronic illness has developed depression. People with depression are less likely to maintain their health treatment regimens or to take positive steps to manage physical symptoms when they arise, thereby potentially complicating their medical prognosis. Treatment of depression, through talk therapy, medication, or both, will often improve one’s physical state as it eases the emotional burden of illness.
What are the most effective treatment options for chronic illness?
No one living with a chronic illness, or their loved ones, should see depression as an unavoidable result of their condition. Instead, they should actively seek treatment. Research shows that people with depression are less likely to devote the required time and effort to maintaining or monitoring their health, and so therapy to limit the risk of depression can be vital for physical health as well. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction have been found to help individuals reduce stress and anxiety.
How long does therapy for chronic illness take?
There is no set timeline for therapy for people living with chronic illnesses, but many will see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 weekly sessions. Some people feel that they experience progress faster than others but even some who quickly feel improvement may continue with sessions for months or years. Some people may benefit from maintenance therapy if their symptoms change or they experience a decline in physical health. Others find that the skills learned in short-term therapy can be used on an ongoing basis, even after therapy has concluded.
