Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with courageous individuals who are tired of feeling powerless over their worry, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, OCD and stress.
Do you spend a lot of time worrying, overthinking or dealing with overwhelming thoughts? Feeling powerless over your worry or anxiety is exhausting and can also impact your life in a negative way. You might be avoiding situations that make you worry or feel anxious, have a hard time sleeping, feel not good enough or do things in a certain way to keep the anxiety manageable in the moment. Worry does not have to run your life.

Are you having difficulty maintaining a positive work-life balance and navigating your past or current experiences? Struggling with obsessive compulsions or avoiding situations you deep down wish you could enjoy? Being stressed can leave us feeling disconnected, unworthy, and underappreciated. You may feel overwhelmed by daily tasks, social interactions, or experience self-guilt. Many experiences can make these feelings of stress overpower the more positive aspects of life. Together, we can work through your experiences to understand these new or lingering emotions. You can once again be the best version of yourself.

I have experience working with people with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and OCD and other serious mental health illnesses.
We all carry things that weigh us down. The stressors of everyday life, big or small and they impact us more than we realize. Each of us is holding onto things that we just need to talk about. It is crucial to have a space where we can do that. Somewhere where we can unpack the things that weigh us down to help us move forward, stronger and more equipped to handle whatever life throws our way. Therapy is invaluable for many. It gives us an outlet where we are understood, and heard by someone who has our back every step of the way. In me you will find a therapist who is compassionate, and empathetic to what you share with me.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
