How many times have you caught yourself thinking, “Seriously, what is going on with my life?” Maybe you’re feeling the weight of juggling work, strained relationships, and the constant pressure to keep it all together—while barely managing to stay afloat. If you’re a parent, you might be determined to do better for your kids, but sometimes, it feels like the old cycles are creeping back in. It's exhausting and can feel like nothing really sticks, no matter what you try. I don’t believe in quick fixes or easy answers—because, let’s be real, they don’t work in the long run!

Now Offering EMDR! Hey there - As a therapy survivor myself, I know that it is often hard to reach out. I want to encourage you that I can relate, and also know that the first step to change comes with taking a courageous leap to work on your own goals! I am incredibly passionate about my role as a Registered Psychotherapist. Life has had its share of ups and downs for me, which I believe have helped me understand my clients in a deeper level. I find a lot of joy out of those 'ah-ha' moments, when a client breaks free from what is holding them back, or finds healing. It's truly an honour to walk with every client!

Many of the clients I work with struggle with overthinking, procrastination or imposter syndrome. Perhaps you’re a high-achieving professional woman but sometimes you feel like you’re the only one in the room who doesn’t have it all together. Or maybe you have a million things on your plate, a to-do list that never seems to get any shorter, and when you lay your head down to sleep, your thoughts kick into gear & keep you awake. You may be feeling anxious, stressed & exhausted & you just want to find a way to regain your self-confidence & put some joy back into life. Everything feels hard & you long to feel peaceful & energized again

I have worked extensively with individual adults and couples for almost twenty years, helping them find hope, insight, and real change. Now I specialize in two specific but broad areas. First, clients who suspect or recognize that their struggles may be rooted in unresolved events, traumas, or beliefs inherited from their past. This manifests as past memories continuing to resurface, being easily irritated, overwhelming shame, fears, insecurities, and unhealthy or codependent relationships. My second area of focus is helping couples going through marital distress find healing through Focus on the Family Hope Restored intensives.

As a Christian therapist and wedding officiant, I blend empathy with a holistic approach to reconnecting and healing.
You’re tired of feeling like you’re the only one holding things together. The love, connection, and trust that once came so easily now feel out of reach. Maybe you feel unheard, unseen, or like you’re constantly walking on eggshells. You’re exhausted from giving so much, yet feeling like it’s never enough. That emotional weight of managing everything—your relationship, your family, your faith—has left you drained. You long for things to feel easier, to feel like partners again. I’m here to help you rebuild that closeness, find your voice, and bring back the joy you’ve been missing.

Why Christian therapy? Because many Christians believe they have to separate their mental health from their faith and that is not the case! We cannot leave our faith out of our healing journey because it is a large part of who we are.
My name is Shannyah and I am Christian psychotherapist and registered social worker. I have been in the social work field for 8 years, with ample experience working with youth, young adults and marginalized communities. I am the founder and clinical director of Shannyah Christian Psychotherapy & Consulting where I offer safe spaces for Christians to heal from trauma and mental illnesses, while intersecting faith and mental health practices. I have worked with many clients who have experienced trauma & PTSD, depression & anxiety, mental health disorders, identity issues, life transitions, church hurt and other faith-based issues.

I help second-gen immigrants move out of survival mode and break generational cycles for good, so that they can speak their truth, live authentically and find peace in the present. As a child of immigrant parents, you probably straddle two worlds and navigate powerful family and cultural expectations. You may be feeling stuck, discouraged or even overwhelmed as a result. Yet there's a way to break the cycle so that you're both respecting your family and being true to yourself. If you're motivated to leave a different legacy to your kids, then you're exactly the kind of person I can help.

Christian Counsellors

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work effectively together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience in tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of culture, religion, and other factors on each individual.

Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Christian values?

Each person brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of treatment modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition that strongly influences the way they conduct their everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process. For some clients, a Christian therapist is likely to incorporate faith-based principles into emotional healing techniques.

How do I recognise an effective Christian therapist?

Christian therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Christian beliefs and values. They have an understanding of the importance that Christian principles play in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of struggles that can affect daily functioning. Like all effective therapists, a Christian therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of life.

Why might someone feel comfortable with a Christian therapist?

While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic success. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who not only is responsive to questions and concerns but also shares a client’s faith and values. Sensitivity to spiritual matters as well as to everyday struggles can provide a welcome sense of safety and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, both of which support the therapeutic process.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Christian therapists?

The directory of Christian therapists includes professionals who have shared their background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Christian clients, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
