I understand that dealing with trauma and stress can be challenging, but you don’t have to face it alone.
Are you feeling the heavy burden of stress, burnout, or trauma? If you find yourself yearning for inner peace, spiritual fulfillment, and a transformative shift in your life, you’re in the right place. I am dedicated to helping clients who are ready to invest both time and effort into healing and personal growth. My practice is rooted in supporting individuals who are overwhelmed, exhausted, and dealing with the effects of trauma. You may be feeling “tired but wired,” caught in a cycle of stress and disconnection, but seeking a path to deeper fulfillment and authentic living.

Burnout, stress, anxiety, trauma are real and if not addressed have far reaching consequences on your relationships, self esteem, energy levels and capacity to feel good in your own skin.
I help you get out of your mind… and into your body ;) Your body is where your memories/emotions are stored AND where healing longstanding stress patterns happens… so we might as well begin there. I specialize working with people who have complex trauma, grief, and anxiety/burnout. I have over 25 years of experience working in mental health and natural health. I offer a holistic approach (mind/body/spirit) to mental health and give you tools that work to help you shift your long seated patterns. I run my signature therapy group: Emotional Literacy to help you learn from your emotions, rather than being dominated by them.

I am dedicated to offering support to survivors of relational trauma and sexual violence.
We all face challenges in life and sometimes we need help along the way. Painful experiences can leave us feeling disconnected, stuck in heavy emotions and struggling to change unhelpful patterns within ourselves and our relationships. You deserve to be heard, validated and understood, so that you can share your story and begin to heal. Healing and growth are possible, even after painful events. Together, we can make connections between the past and the present, build your self-compassion and find new ways of coping. I hope to support you as you gain new insights into yourself and discover a new way forward.

I use various models including emotion-focused therapy, mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy, and internal-family systems ("parts work"), drawing from theories of attachment, trauma and neurobiology.
It takes courage to explore what is painful and uncomfortable in our lives. I believe therapy offers a unique opportunity for inner exploration to gain insight into your thoughts, emotions, relationship dynamics, past experiences and cultural contexts that have impacted your current struggles. Through our work together I will support you in developing a stronger sense of self, more compassion, flexible ways of coping, and empowerment to move towards the life you desire. I will be a guide in connecting with the wounded parts of yourself to allow transformation and integration.

It is the normal experience of struggle and suffering that brings people to psychotherapy. You may feel that something in your life is not making sense or is not working. That may be a relationship, your reactions to life events, the past wounds of trauma that emerge, or other challenging experiences; it is all okay. Whatever it is that brings you in, I maintain that there is nothing “wrong” with you, that there is just something wrong for you. This perspective can seem completely foreign at first, however, it is the process of therapy that can shift the feeling of being “wrong” to an intuitive, felt sense that you are just right.

The mental health professionals at The Dot are trained in many different types of therapy that can help with issues related to trauma, grief, relationship issues (yes we do couples counselling) depression, anxiety and more.
It's not just you, life HAS gotten harder in the last few years. If you've been powering through, staying strong and carrying on, but now you're barely getting by and you're tired of feeling like you're not really living your life, it might be time for outside support. The benefit of therapy is that it's a time where you get to focus on yourself, to look at your life, and to get an outside perspective on how it could be different. You don't have to just endure, with the right support, you can heal from the past, and move forward towards a better future.

My approach combines hypnosis, humour, and sensory experiences to communicate in a way that allows for trauma to be resolved gently and painlessly, allowing you to get more of what is beneficial.
Have you been feeling stuck and unable to change how you feel or act? Most likely you have been effected by experiences from your past. Consciously you may understand the value of changing a behaviour, but unless your deeper mind is transformed, change is not likely. Attempting to bring about enduring change without eliminating these "ghosts from the past" is like trying to repair the structure of a building by applying a coat of paint. Using a gentle, painless, and fun approach to therapy, I create immediate and lasting change through brain-changing conversations, teaching you how to stress-proof and play your brain for change.

When we practice the skills of SE regularly, the nervous system begins to regulate itself better, so that concerns such as anxiety, depression, anger and trauma naturally improve.
Are you feeling overwhelmed? Do your thoughts keep racing from one thing to another? Do you find you are excellent at taking care of everyone else but keep neglecting yourself? I would like to help. I am passionate about helping people to move past the "shoulds" and move towards creating the kind of life they want to live. Most of the time when we are distressed we are worrying either too much about the past or the future, or are overly preoccupied by what we imagine other people are thinking about us.

Recovering from traumatic and adverse life experiences is not a linear process.
As a social worker/psychotherapist, I have 14 years of extensive clinical practice supporting individuals who have endured past and present traumatic and hurtful life experiences. I guide individuals out of painful emotions, thoughts, somatic reactions, and behavioural patterns by creatively combining trauma-informed therapies that foster personal growth and transformation. More specifically, I use: EMDR, sensorimotor psychotherapy, a listening/music therapy technique, and other approaches that resource and work with trauma-related experiences/parts of self.

The majority of my practice focuses on reducing symptoms of trauma, depression and anxiety.
Have you suffered hurt because of the pressures or expectations placed on you by others? Have you been let down by the very people you have been told you can trust (friends, family, mentors or faith community)? Have these hurts shaped your identity and caused you to question who you are and what matters to you? If this resonates with you, I would be honoured to support you in your journey and invite you to contact me.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
