I offer services in English and Spanish (Español). Many women go through toxic relationships where they feel devastated; however, they ask themselves if their perception is correct because there are no punches or blood involved. Likewise, women begin to doubt themselves as their sense of reality is altered and their cognition is put to the test. Another serious consequence of this condition is low self-esteem. Women think that they have no value and that there will be no one in the world who will love or desire them anymore. This is a call to all women who want to recover themselves. You Are Not Alone!

Anxiety, depression, and critical self-talk can feel debilitating. On the outside you may seem fine to others, you might even respond with "great" when they ask how you're doing, but on the inside you're stuck in patterns of overthinking, incessant worry, lack of motivation, and weariness. There is hope that life can be different, even if you feel anxiety and depression have become part of who you are. Counselling can help identify patterns of negative thinking and offer fresh insights, rewiring the brain's pathways, creating healthier ways of being.

You are ambitious and thrive on connection, but you've lost your drive and constantly feel behind and overwhelmed. You aren't calling your friends because they don't understand where you are at. You hesitate to commit to plans because you don't know how you will feel that day. Your emotions regularly take over your day making it difficult for you to complete your tasks. You know you are capable of more, you wonder if you are depressed, but you are having difficulty pinpointing what's wrong. You just know that you don't want every day to feel like survival, you want to thrive.

I aim to produce the confidence, knowledge and skills necessary for individuals and families to move forward and resolve issues in one to three sessions.  Sometimes, more sessions are needed in order to meet treatment goals. However, a minimal amount of sessions can often be enough to make positive steps forward. I focus on a strength based, confidential, supportive and judgment free approach to guide individuals and families in living their best lives. Life is too short to be unhappy, unsure, or unfulfilled. Let me help you learn and develop better ways to handle the issues that are standing in the way of your goals.

Are you struggling with feeling disconnected from yourself and others? Do you put your needs at the bottom of the to-do list? Do you wonder if life should feel somehow better? Happier? Easier? Manageable? Now more than ever, people are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and uncertain about how they are supposed to manage their relationships, careers, and their lives. Pushing away or ignoring your needs can lead to long-term issues for your mind and body. I believe it shouldn’t be so hard to live a better life.

You may feel tension, sadness, disconnection, discouragement, or fear. Our minds tend to pull us into the past or make us feel anxious about our future. Stress and overwhelm can flood our senses or distract us from the cues our bodies are trying to tell us. Big emotions can interfere with the person we are trying to become and can impact the relationships we are trying to cultivate.

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
