You may feel tension, sadness, disconnection, discouragement, or fear. Our minds tend to pull us into the past or make us feel anxious about our future. Stress and overwhelm can flood our senses or distract us from the cues our bodies are trying to tell us. Big emotions can interfere with the person we are trying to become and can impact the relationships we are trying to cultivate.

Are you afraid of breaking up? Do you find that the two of you can’t communicate, or hear each other anymore? Our goal at The Couples Clinic is to help couples find their way back to each other. Topics such as trust, intimacy, extended family, money and infidelity can cause huge struggles in relationships. Even when couples have been together for years, they can still have difficulty navigating these issues. Anger, mistrust, contempt and resentment can pull the two of you apart and make it that much harder to heal and build the future you both deserve.

Therapy shouldn't feel like a chore. While it might sometimes be hard to hear what is discussed in therapy, overall you should leave feeling like you've gained something useful or even transformative. Over time, you should feel you are getting stronger, more resilient and have shed layers of fear and anxiety. Of course this process can be overwhelming at times and you might not always progress on the timeframe that you thought you would, but when therapy goes well, you should feel more settled and more clear about your life. You should gain understanding about yourself and others and have a renewed sense of purpose and passion

All of the ISMS, abuse, illness/pain, loss, grief, shame, and feeling disconnected and unworthy can feel so painful and isolating. The services I offer are focused on healing the whole mind and body. You will learn how to calm your nervous system and develop an embodied awareness of the strategies you developed as protection against further harm (fight, flight, freeze, fawn). Together we can reprocess and reconsolidate painful memories. My ideal client is open-minded, committed to bi-weekly appointments, and understands that healing involves engaging in calming & healing exercises between appointments.

Do you struggle with addiction, grief, and/or ADHD, and you feel like it is holding you back or impacts your life too drastically? Do you feel frustrated, exhausted, or less than, and struggle to meet societies standards? Maybe you even feel hopeless, or like you don’t even know who you are anymore. Are you needs at the bottom of your list? Pushing away your needs and not taking the time for yourself can lead to long-term issues for your mind and body. Do you want things to change? Many people struggle with various issues yet feel alone in their perceived deficits. I believe that it should not be so hard to live a better life.

Ravonn Kauffman’s counselling practice focuses on working with clients to achieve clear goals in a short period of time. Ravonn works with clients to make positive changes in a period of weeks or months - long-term treatment, while possible, tends to be undertaken only as a series of these smaller steps so that clients see progress, grow without developing dependence on the process and feel free to step away to try other approaches.

How can infertility affect couples and their relationship?

Clients who are dealing with infertility may experience conflict and communication problems. It’s not unusual for shame, blame, and guilt to arise in cases of infertility, whether the source of the problem is one partner or both. This means that clients are upset and pulling away from their partner just when they need them the most. Some clients may find it difficult to spend time around friends and family who are pregnant. Friends and family can also make hurtful comments that increase tension during this time.

How does therapy for infertility issues work?

The therapist will begin by gathering information about the client or couple and make a treatment plan for their specific concerns. In addition to addressing common mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, and trauma reactions or PTSD, therapists can help clients improve their decision-making and deal with stressors unique to infertility. Some examples include coping with the “two-week wait” before a pregnancy test, the distress associated with a failed attempt or miscarriage, and the shame and blame sometimes associated with reproductive concerns.

What type of therapy is best for infertility issues?

Many therapists offer psychotherapy for individuals and couples who are dealing with infertility issues. Some helpful therapeutic approaches include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), which can aid clients in reframing negative thoughts about their situation. Expressive writing and art therapy can help clients process difficult feelings. Clients might also benefit from group therapy to experience support from others who are dealing with the same problems.

How long does therapy for infertility issues take?

There is no set length for therapy that addresses infertility or reproductive concerns. Some clients might find it helpful to continue therapy during their pregnancy to have healthy ways to cope with any associated stress, anxiety, depression, or trauma. Some clients who decide not to pursue fertility treatments might benefit from the support of a therapist. The duration of therapy varies depending on the individual client’s specific needs and goals.
