I typically pull from psychodynamic, CBT, and IFS.
It's difficult to imagine what life can be like beyond the hardships; difficult to see a light in the darkness. I am here to sit with you. I am here to cry with you. I am here to empower you to grow into yourself. But, I'm also here to laugh, smile, and celebrate with you. Because even though the darkness might feel insurmountable, there are always glimmers and I want to help you find them. It's a pretty scary place to be alone in your mind, but I'm here to help make that place a little less lonely.

Are you wanting to make a change in your life to improve your wellbeing? Have you found it difficult to see progress even though you’ve tried a lot of self-help tips and perhaps even therapy before? Fortunately, ISTDP is an advanced psychotherapy approach that has shown to be effective in treating mental health issues that are resistant to other forms of therapy. This evidence-based approach can be used to treat personality disorders, trauma, medically unexplained symptoms, functional neurological disorders, anxiety, and depression.

I work with human beings, so everyone experiences complex feelings differently. The one common denominator is that clients who receive psychotherapy seem ready to process past traumatic or challenging experiences that continue to interfere with their current mental health and well-being.

At times, many of us contend with emotions and suffering that are overwhelmingly painful, disheartening and difficult to bear, often as a result of unique stressors and events. I work with adults, adolescents, families and step-families using Emotionally Focused Therapy, EMDR, interpersonal psychotherapy, and DBT/CBT within neuroscience and attachment frameworks. I encouraged clients to access inner strengths and free their capacity for growth. My orientation is trauma-informed and psychodynamic, as I seek to provide you with the room you need to explore how your past may be impacting, or even overwhelming your present.
Whether you’re experiencing depressed or anxious thoughts or feelings, difficulties in relationships, the impact of past trauma, feel trapped in addictive living, or looking for help navigating school or work-related stress, I would be honoured to help you on your journey. I will help you encounter the sensations, emotions, thoughts, and long-standing narratives keeping you stuck in repetitive disempowering cycles of behaviour and thought. I can help you cultivate a deeper awareness of your mind-body connection. Tuning inward opens up possibilities for building a healthier sense of self and more meaningful relationships.

I employ Western and Eastern modalities - CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy), Psychodynamic Therapy, Gestalt, Internal Family Systems, Energy Psychology - Yoga, Reiki, Mindfulness and Meditation.
Providing a balance of support and challenge, my approach to healing is holistic and comprehensive. I believe that each individual has all of the inner resources they need to achieve a sense of balance and equanimity. My role is merely to provide a safe, non-judgmental container in which they can reach their own integration - cognitively, emotionally and somatically. I aim to assist the individual's journey-making process through offering new ways at looking through the lens which often gets obscured by many mitigating factors. Clarity is the goal.

Psychodynamic Counsellors

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
