I have a passion for helping people during times of change and growth, as well as during the difficulties of illness, grief or trauma. I work from a relational perspective and have developed a keen interest in supporting people by weaving together tools of therapy with a very person-to-person approach to healing and growing. I specialize in supporting those who have experienced trauma, as well as those who are navigating major life changes and transitions such as: new baby, quarter or mid-life crisis, relationships, empty nest, existential exploration as well as those moving through illness, grief or bereavement.

Sometimes the challenges life brings can seem intolerable, leaving you feeling stuck, unable to cope and with a sense that things are falling apart. Perhaps you're seeking greater fulfillment & tired of feeling alone, misunderstood and that no one else could possibly understand you. Hi, my name is Amun (she/her), and I’d be happy to support you whether it be to regulate intense emotions, gain clarity or find balance. My hope is through curiosity, we can arrive at a greater understanding of how you arrived here and gently learn to meet yourself with compassion.

You really can have a life of abundance, peace, happiness and joy! Have you and your partner been experiencing emotional distance from one another? Are you both exhausted from repeatedly falling into the same patterns of conflict? Do you sometimes feel like your partner just doesn't understand your perspective? Perhaps you care for your partner, but no longer feel "in love." At some point, the relationship lost its spark, and now you feel like you're just coexisting as roommates, barely interacting due to busy routines. You might find yourselves more inclined to scroll on your phones rather than engage with each other.

It can be hard to know where to start when looking for a therapist. Maybe you are facing difficulties or stress stemming from your dynamics with family, friends, peers, co-workers, or your partner. Caught in the constant worry cycle of what will happen next or who you are meant to be? The people we are with and things we do in life can offer so much meaning, yet can cause excess stress or fear of the unknown. If you are feeling overly anxious, experiencing a low mood, looking for support during a marital separation, or struggling with a family member with addiction or alcohol dependence, I value the opportunity to support you.

I am a highly empathetic therapist whose main focus is the development of a therapeutic relationship with my clients. I understand how difficult starting therapy can be, I encourage my clients to set the pace and proceed at whatever speed they are comfortable with. Are you struggling with ruminating thoughts when trying to sleep? Do you struggle to find joy or satisfaction from your many accomplishments? Do you set unreasonably high expectations for yourself? Do you suffer from perfectionism, anger and burnout? Those same perfectionistic tendencies that drive you forward may actually be holding you back.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
