Navigating the stress, uncertainty and overwhelming emotions that everyday life can bring is not easy. This is why I specialize in working with teens and adults who face challenges with school, family relationships, addictions (substances, video games, social media), self-esteem, anxiety, and ADHD. Together we will explore imaginative ways to better express and understand your core self, develop better coping strategies, find tools for emotional regulation and build lasting resilience. I use techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Mindfulness.

If working through life's challenges feels more overwhelming than staying stuck in your current situation, I would like to have the opportunity to help you navigate your way to a life worth living. Often negative thinking patterns and behaviours can influence our sense of self and impact on our family, work and school life. My goal in art psychotherapy is to assist you in discovering your potential while finding your internal voice. A client centered, anti-oppressive approach provides a safe and confidential environment to explore what matters most to you.

Currently accepting new in-person and virtual clients! Life is a journey that no one should walk alone. Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, emotionally or physically exhausted, hurt, or isolated, I am here to walk with you. I strive to foster a compassionate, warm, and non-judgemental atmosphere for you to explore your current challenges. Together, we will identify your goals, learn your strengths, and develop an individualized treatment plan that feels good to you. There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to counselling, which is why I use a client-centred, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approach to therapy.

Do you find yourself often thinking negatively about yourself? Do you struggle with confidence and feeling good about yourself? Do you feel like your life is out of your control? Do you just need someone to talk to? Do you need help reaching your goals? If any of these questions resonate with you, we could be a good fit. I have a special interest in working with those struggling with low self-esteem, poor body image or body dysmorphia, and disordered eating or eating disorders. I also enjoy working with neurodivergent individuals as I have ADHD myself and know what that struggle can be like.

Life can be painful at times. We might notice issues in our relationships, self-esteem or overall wellbeing. We can get stuck in patterns or reactions that don't feel good. We might feel overwhelmed during times of transition (maybe parenthood or school). Or experience symptoms of anxiety or depression - telling us that something is up. You'll find our sessions to be a trustworthy, supportive environment, where you can get the guidance you're looking for and feel comfortable to do the deeper reflection needed to make meaningful change. Together, we can explore what's troubling you, develop new perspectives and help you cope better.

I work with individuals who want to resolve their past trauma. These traumas may come from childhood or from other traumatic events that can take place in adulthood. They are seeking better self understanding and most of all healing. Many of my client's have tried various forms of talk therapy and want to try something different as they have not yet identified the root cause of their difficulties or only noticed marginal change. The unresolved trauma may be contributing to ongoing relationship problems, anxiety, depression, self esteem concerns, or complex/post traumatic stress.

"...we live by stories, we also live in them. One way or another we are living the stories planted in us early or along the way, or we are also living the stories we planted - knowingly or unknowingly - in ourselves. We live stories that either give our lives meaning or negate it with meaninglessness. If we change the stories we live by, quite possibly we change our lives." Ben Okri

Feeling trapped by anxious or obsessive thoughts, consumed by negative self-talk, and having these thoughts interfere with your relationships can lead to a vicious cycle of shame and emotional pain. This is a cycle that I know. Through the lens of attachment theory, exploring attachment wounds and patterns becomes a powerful tool for developing secure and supportive relationships, both within ourselves and with others.

No Waitlist! Accepting New Clients: Are you feeling stuck, anxious, overwhelmed, or hopeless? Maybe you feel like your confidence is down, your self-esteem is low, and you are having a hard time finding motivation to do anything at all - everything feels like a chore. Your family never talked about emotions, and now you're either overwhelmed by yours, or feeling numb to it all. You know there must be more to life than this, but you don't know what you're doing wrong. You know you need better communication skills and boundaries. You know you need to learn to "love yourself", but you don't know how to actually DO that.

Life isn't always easy. It is full of stressors big and small. Some are predictable. Others are totally unexpected. And some are cumulative in that we don't even know that we are being impacted until that day that we hit the wall and find that we just aren't functioning the way we want. We try everything we know to get through tough times, to change how we are feeling, acting, and thinking, but sometimes we need a little extra help.

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
