Are you seeking a therapist who respects your complex life experiences and does not ask you to fit in a box? I help folks explore identity quests, build self-esteem, healthy relationships and conflict-resolution styles, and understand anger, depression, anxiety, people-pleasing or avoidant behaviour, and trauma. With 6+ years of experience in working with folks who have faced and perpetuated interpersonal abuse, I deeply care about breaking the intergenerational trauma and abuse patterns. I advocate for men's mental health rights and support survivors of gender- and honour-based violence in co-creating their resilience narrative.

I use solution-focused, narrative, emotion-focused, and dialogic therapies to meet your unique needs over the course of our work together.
Maybe you’re seeking a change, but want support figuring out what that is. I’m here for it. I see therapy quite simply, as a conversation – likely one you don’t get anywhere else. Therapy allows you to take a step back, tell your story, and determine the parts that may or may not be working for you. Even when you’re feeling stuck, you hold wisdom about your life. I see my role as accompanying you in gaining clarity about what you want and identifying opportunities for action. Once you hold greater awareness about what’s going on, you have choices. This can be an empowering experience.

We will explore the impacts of trauma, externalize the problem, and work towards crafting a new, empowering narrative.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the weight of what you've been through, unsure about how to move forward, or struggling to reclaim your sense of self, know that you’re not alone. I specialize in supporting women who have endured sexual assault or abuse, offering a space where your pain is acknowledged and your voice is heard. Together, we will work to gently separate your identity from the trauma, support you in areas where the trauma is affecting you, and help you rebuild your life with strength, resilience, and hope for the future.

Through a trauma-informed lens, I incorporate Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, Life Process Transformation and alternative modalities to help clients experience healing in ways that enable longstanding change.
I believe therapy at its core is about human connection and transformation. I am passionate about creating a compassionate, honest and authentic space, to guide individuals in reconnecting with their authentic selves, and to live fuller, more meaningful lives. Through a non-pathologizing approach, I believe that all behavior has a function. The work of therapy is to delve deeper to understand the purpose of behaviours or patterns such as addiction, eating disorders, and chronic anxiety etc. We explore how they may play out in your life, and what is needed to feel supported towards growth, inner freedom, self compassion and change.

I work with evidence-based and effective modalities such as collaborative, emotion-focused, narrative, and solutions-focused therapies.
In my work with clients, my goal is to help you explore and process the ways you feel stuck in your life and far from your goals. Are there stories you are holding about your life that are no longer serving you and are hard to let go of? I hope to help clients discover stuck narratives and choose the path that allows for a different kind of relationship with self and others. Whether it is a pattern of conflict you wish to approach differently, a topic you struggle to get perspective on or a challenge in the relationship you need help exploring thoughtfully, I hope to help create a space where change is possible.

Narrative Counsellors

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioural therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds — perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
