I specialize in supporting adults, seniors, families, and couples living with PTSD, anxiety and depression, substance/alcohol mis-use, first episode psychosis, and in need of ongoing one-on-one counselling, caregiver support and/or group counselling.
If trauma, abuse, and mental illness have left you feeling like you’re lost in the darkness, you’re not alone. It’s perfectly natural that the difficult emotions and loneliness you feel have cast a shadow over your life. But though the darkness may feel crushing, there is hope and light. The truth is your painful past does not mean that you are stuck with an unhappy future, and though your mental health might feel like it has taken charge of your life, it does not define you. As we work together, I’ll help you discover that you are much more than your circumstances, that your life matters, and that you have a powerful purpose.

NOT Accepting New Clients: For a long time, you have been described as "the problem." You have heard this countless times in your relationships, so be it with your family, friends, or partner. You understand that there is no such thing as being "perfect," but you find yourself using this thought as a way to justify your anger, emotions, and at times your self-sabotaging behaviors. Above all, you love those around you and want to sustain these relationships. You know you are accountable, but how do you reframe your emotions when you are constantly left feeling shamed, misheard, and misrepresented by those closest to you.

Are you struggling with anxiety in the form of worrying, intrusive thoughts, or maybe other uncomfortable experiences such as panic? Perhaps you have experienced a traumatic situation at work or in your personal life that continues to impact your life months or years down the line. These experiences can take us away from living lives consistent with our vision or values. Change can be difficult, yet very rewarding. I have 8 years of experience guiding individuals in their wellness journeys toward improved clarity and alignment with their values and goals.

Are you feeling depressed, anxious or overwhelmed? Do you think that life has not been fair and you suffer from emotional pain/guilt? Are you looking for answers/solutions for your mental or physical illness? For 20 years I have been working with clients helping them with their unique life story. My therapy opens up the understanding of physical/mental disorder and integrates what has been rejected in your life. One client understood the circumstances that manifested a tumor and decided to continue her life without it. She actually started to appreciate her life and stopped blaming her parents for her upbringing.

***ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS: IN-PERSON & PHONE/VIDEO*** We believe that there is good in every person, and hope in every situation. We have helped individuals, couples, and families heal, grow, and connect. As relational therapists, we appreciate the impact that our relationships have on our well-being. We do not see clients as having something wrong with their minds that necessarily needs to be fixed. Rather, we see our clients as unique individuals, each with their own stories and perspectives, embedded in important relationships and contexts that impact them. We see strengths and we see hope, even when it feels like there is none.

What’s the most effective treatment for psychosis?

The most effective treatment for psychosis is coordinated specialty care. In this model, a team of professionals works with a patient to address all aspects of the underlying disorder. This approach incorporates individual or group therapy, employment and education support, family support and education, medication management (which often involves low doses of antipsychotics), and case management to facilitate problem-solving as needed.

When should people seek treatment for psychosis?

People should seek immediate treatment at the earliest indication of psychosis. Symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized or blocked speech, and agitated body movements. Early signs that a person may be developing a disorder that will lead to psychosis include suspiciousness of others, memory problems and distractibility, an inability to think clearly, rapid or nonsensical speech, withdrawal from friends or family, aggression toward others, and sensitivity to bright lights or noises.

What if psychosis is left untreated?

Without treatment, psychosis can have significant repercussions, including injuries, job loss, homelessness, financial or legal trouble, ruptured relationships, and suffering for the person and their family. While early treatment for psychosis often yields the best results, there is no point past which it becomes useless to seek treatment. At any point, treatment can make a difference.

How do I get someone else to seek treatment for psychosis?

It’s extremely difficult to watch a loved one suffer from hallucinations, delusions, and other elements of psychosis—sometimes exacerbated by their fears of treatment. Have a conversation with them in a quiet space and maintain a calm, supportive tone. Share your concerns about behaviors you’ve observed, suggest treatment, and explain the potential benefits. Listen carefully to their responses. The person may not be ready after one conversation, but with time, they may come around.
