Together we can go on a therapeutic exploration towards healing, where you feel safe, heard, understood and validated.

Trauma can profoundly impact our well-being, leaving us feeling disconnected and alone. It can create extreme psychological stress in our daily interactions with others, impeding our quality of life. Trauma does not have to be one significant event. It can be a series of relational or attachment wounds experienced in childhood, leading to self-esteem issues, problems asserting boundaries and people-pleasing behaviours. If you struggle to feel safe, know that you are not alone. I aim to create a warm and welcoming environment where we can re-establish your sense of connection and trust in others.

Suffering is a part of life. It is something we all have in common, yet can feel so alone and isolated in. It can present in many ways, whether it been through depression, anxiety, anger, and it can impact many areas of our lives such as activities of daily living, our ability to function socially and cognitively, and our adaptability to stress. For some, being resilient in the face of struggle comes naturally whereas for others, this is something we must actively work towards. Through the therapeutic process, I strive to help you to uncover your own resiliency and inner strength to persevere in the face of struggle.

The difficult emotions you might be feeling, such as anxiety, sadness, resentment, guilt, or overwhelm to name a few, are guides that are here to tell you something about your experiences or your beliefs. When ignored, they get louder, when avoided, more painful. I will seek to understand your experience, and go at your pace, as you tell the stories of what is happening for you, and what has happened. When we face together, what is painful and confusing alone, new realizations and understanding can emerge.

There are many factors in life that contribute to each individual experiencing some level of stress. This is the result of any number of unique diverse variables. When that stress becomes unmanageable it can lead to a multitude of mental health issues and distress. Do you struggle with your emotions, mental or physical health, or in relationships? Perhaps you are dealing with a challenging or traumatic situation in life, at work or school? Or you are feeling a more indescribable, general sense of instability but you don't understand why? First off, let me say you are not alone. Nobody is immune to developing life problems, experiencing traumatic incidences, struggling with life transitions, or developing mental or physical health issues that are difficult to cope with. Nobody is immune to times of feeling overwhelmed, over-stressed or confused; in fact, it is not all that uncommon.

While it can be a difficult process to admit when we need help, there is nothing to be ashamed of. Sometimes things come up for us in life, both from our past as well as our present, that may demand us to seek out help, and that’s okay. I typically work with adults struggling with anxiety, depression, identity issues, sexual issues, and relationship issues. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community myself, I specialize in working with LGBTQ+ clients, and I am passionate about advocating for and supporting marginalized groups.

Thoughts are not facts. Yet often we get caught up in rumination and catastrophizing and our daily functioning and happiness are compromised. Past trauma or distressing experiences affect present. Relationships suffer. Decisions are difficult. The smallest set-back is overwhelming. You have an overall sense of unease but can’t put your finger on exactly why, or what to do about it. Therapy can help you unravel all of this. With psychoeducation and the introduction of coping strategies, you can learn to manage your runaway thinking, build resilience, wake up fully rested after a great night’s sleep and greet the sunrise with a smile

Are you coming to therapy with questions about your identity, trauma, taking up space, doubt, or how to navigate change or difficult relationship dynamics? Do you feel like you might be the only person who has ever felt this way? Or like anxiety has been keeping you from accessing the support you deserve? As a queer person who has benefited greatly from my own therapy, I know how important it is to have a nonjudgmental space where I can show up as my whole and authentic self and have my grief, loss, and doubts witnessed and validated. I would be honoured to create that space with you.

Transgender Counsellors

As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?

A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.

What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?

Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.

How can I recognise a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?

An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognise a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?

Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
