My mission is to support and empower clients on their journey towards growth and healing. I am committed to promoting a safe, open, and non-judgmental space to deconstruct what you are feeling, what you have experienced, and your current situation. I strive to build a trusting therapeutic relationship with my clients through empathy, authenticity, and collaboration. I recognize that there is no “one size fits all” approach to therapy, and as such, I aim to tailor sessions based on your unique individual experiences and needs.

Accepting new clients - Life is full of challenges that don’t have to be navigated alone and I would be honoured to be a part of your journey towards growth, healing, and self-discovery. I’d like to thank you for your vulnerability and willingness to show up for yourself and ask for help - as I recognize it isn’t easy. Therapy is a powerful tool that can help heal old wounds, improve personal well-being, & create meaningful change in our lives. Your past may influence your present, however, it does not need to determine your future.

Do you experience high stress levels and find it difficult to find a sense of calm? Do you find it difficult to move forward after an experience of trauma? Is it challenging to embody all parts of you? Experiences of trauma, including identity-based trauma, can wreak havoc on our lives and make us feel out of control. They are overwhelming and it can feel hard to know where to start. Having a safe space where you experience unconditional positive regard, empowerment and a sense of acceptance can start the healing process.

One of my favourite quotes is “we repeat what we don’t repair”. We often find ourselves caught in patterns within our emotions, thoughts, beliefs, and behaviours, that shape our sense of self, our relationships with others, and our life experiences. Let’s embark on a journey together to identify these recurring patterns by exploring the significant pieces of your past that contribute to who you are today. Together, we will rearrange these pieces in ways that foster healing from distressing patterns, and encourage growth towards patterns that bring peace and fulfillment.

Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, self-esteem challenges, relationship problems, or body image difficulties, a culturally-safe and anti-oppressive therapist can help you heal, while always keeping in mind the impact of existing in multiple worlds, holding multiple identities, and living in a world that doesn't always accept you. A holistic, whole person, approach to therapy honours the connection between mind, body, spirit, and community. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to bring all parts of you to therapy without fear of being misunderstood or judged? It can be tough to find a therapist who really gets it.

Being a woman of color myself, I have served different minority communities, striving to be sensitive, and accepting of the cultural and religious life views of each individual.
We often read, “The answer lies within.” This can be frustrating for some because if it were true, then why see a therapist? Because I believe that while the answer does lie within you, it is buried under other parts of you: the “I shoulds,” the “I shouldn’ts,” the “I can’ts,” “the what ifs,” and generally, the anger, fear and stress that plagues us all. It is my goal as your therapist to harmonize the different parts of you by offering you a safe, supportive, compassionate environment where you can explore all that makes you, you. Together, we will create concrete steps to alleviate your suffering. Evening apts available.

Suffering is a part of life. It is something we all have in common, yet can feel so alone and isolated in. It can present in many ways, whether it been through depression, anxiety, anger, and it can impact many areas of our lives such as activities of daily living, our ability to function socially and cognitively, and our adaptability to stress. For some, being resilient in the face of struggle comes naturally whereas for others, this is something we must actively work towards. Through the therapeutic process, I strive to help you to uncover your own resiliency and inner strength to persevere in the face of struggle.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
