My clinical experience allows me to treat individuals who experience low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship struggles, emotional disturbances, stress, mood disorders, behavioural issues, ADHD, bipolar, borderline disorder, & adjusting to a life change.
Therapy is an opportunity to increase our resilience and to learn how to cope with undesirable life events. Anger, fear, sadness or guilt arise when life experiences are overlooked, neglected, and ununderstood. Anxiety & Depression is a response to the failure to care for the feelings & emotions of the self. Likewise, feelings of stress and inner discomfort need understanding to be changed. The psychotherapy techniques I use to ease client issues and discomfort include CBT, Talking Therapy, DBT skills, Client-Centred, Compassion, Emotional and Solution Focus Therapy, Psychoeducation, frameworks of attachment, and family systems.

I have a good understanding of childhood disorders, anxiety and depression, parent child conflict, and adolescent issues.
While it is true that every life has its highs and lows, sometimes the lows are hard to manage and support may be needed to regain strength. I provide counselling for children and adults, both individually and within the context of the family. I work from a variety of theoretical perspectives including but not limited to CBT, Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Family Systems. My clients establish their own goals for therapy and I provide support in defining the objectives for meeting those goals. I believe that my clients are the experts on their own lives and I am there to facilitate the changes they desire.

My mental health practice offers in person and virtual counselling/psychotherapy to children, youth, and young adults/parents in Ontario, who are impacted by trauma, anxiety, depression and stressful life transitions.
Hi! I am so glad that you are here. The decision to begin therapy is often the first step towards positive change, improved relationships and feeling better. I understand that life can bring us suffering, pain, loss, and other experiences that we oftentimes struggle to manage. My goal as a therapist is to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain and find hope to feel better.

I specialize in modalities such as DBT, CBT, and Brief Therapies, to bring healing in the areas of anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, relational issues, phobias and more.
Do you struggle with feeling disconnected from yourself and others? Does your hopes and dreams seem so far from being able to be achieved? Perhaps just getting through the day has been a challenge for you lately. More than ever, people feel anxious, overwhelmed and uncertain about their tomorrow. As we go through life, we experience breakups, hardships, sickness, failure, and loneliness. My journey started with being born and raised in Australia where everything is said to be, “She’ll be right mate!”. We all know this is not the case.

I treat anxiety/depression, trauma and grief, life transitions, post-partum mood disorder, divorce/separation, etc.
Taking care of our mental health is more important than ever. Therapy allows you to comfortably share the thoughts, feelings, behaviours and relationship issues that are most troubling in your life. Therapy is a collaborative process, where clients are the experts in their own lives. Together, we will develop an understanding of who you are and the core aspects of what has brought you to therapy. We then will work on building on the strengths you already have and learn further strategies to put you forward in the life you want to lead.

Struggling with depression, ADHD, anxiety, grief, loss, co-dependency, trauma, or being on the autism spectrum can be incredibly challenging. As a trauma-informed psychotherapist and rehabilitation therapist, I understand the impact that these changes can have on individuals and families. These impacts run deep and can often affect our mind, body, spirit, relationships and self-esteem. I believe that every individual can heal, grow and develop resiliency. I prioritize the strength of our therapeutic alliance and collaborate from a socially and culturally sensitive lens.

As a therapist with professional experience in trauma, stress, depression, anxiety, life transitions, and recovery from addiction, I help clients liberate themselves from harmful behaviours and habits to get to the heart of their disconnection from the world.
Do you feel like your life is stuck on autopilot, but you can’t figure out why or what to do to change things? This often stems from a disconnection from ourselves, which, in turn, hinders our ability to connect to others and the world around us. As an adult, you may be overworking and engaging in negative self-talk, while children and teenagers may experience a more general sense of confusion, sadness, and frustration with the world. I believe we all have the answers to living our most joyous and embodied lives—we just need to create the right conditions for our truth to shine.

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognise and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioural activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
