As a social worker/psychotherapist, I have 14 years of extensive clinical practice supporting individuals who have endured past and present traumatic and hurtful life experiences. I guide individuals out of painful emotions, thoughts, somatic reactions, and behavioural patterns by creatively combining trauma-informed therapies that foster personal growth and transformation. More specifically, I use: EMDR, sensorimotor psychotherapy, a listening/music therapy technique, and other approaches that resource and work with trauma-related experiences/parts of self.

It’s more than fear of the white coat, the hospital room, or certain procedures. The anxiety, flashbacks, and fear of the unknown are overwhelming and exhausting. When you talk to your doctor or therapist for help, you leave feeling more confused and dismissed. What you’re experiencing is very real. In 2003 my spinal cord was punctured during an epidural procedure, leading to chronic pain. Several years later I suffered from strokes - some small, one big. When the ambulance came, they were convinced I was drunk. Except there was one big problem with their theory: I don't drink. I know what it’s like to be misunderstood.

The pain associated with grief is a natural yet deeply unsettling part of our human journey. My career in the helping profession started as a personal care provider for seniors. The experience brought me closer to families and grief. I have witnessed and experienced firsthand the depth of emotions that arise when we confront loss – whether it is the fading of a relationship, the shift in identity, the disruption of routine or the loss of a dear one. While the journey of loss is one we all share, the grieving process is as individual as each person I have cared for.

Feeling overwhelmed, sad, or constantly anxious can really weigh you down, making it tough to enjoy life or even get through the day sometimes. If you've been battling these feelings, you're not alone. Many people, especially men, find it hard to reach out for help due to societal pressures to "tough it out." But acknowledging that you're struggling is a brave first step towards feeling better. Whether it's stress from work, relationship issues, or past trauma that just won't let you be, therapy can offer the support you need to navigate through these tough times.

It's understandable to feel overwhelmed or shut down when life is hard; situations difficult and relationships confusing. We usually cannot control our outside experiences making it hard to cope. I support individuals to overcome feelings of anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, relationship challenges, self harm, and trauma. Through an empathetic and supportive therapeutic connection one can learn to navigate big emotions, difficult moods, and challenging patterns in healthy ways. I will gently guide you through a process of self reflection and discussion to promote self awareness as you develop skills to foster change.

I have recently joined forces with Psychology Matters as Director of EMDR Therapy and Business Operations. This position allows me to continue to focus on the trauma therapy work for which I have a great passion, as well as collaborating with the Psychology Matters team to meet the greater needs of our community. Having worked in this field for 17 years I've gained a deep appreciation for the influence of our early development on our present ability to cope. With this and the framework of EMDR I am witnessing amazing growth in the people that I am working with.

The ripple effect of addiction and mental health issues can hold us hostage, interfering in our ability to live fulfilling lives and develop meaningful connections with others. Many harbour a sense of shame reflective of stigma which serves to silence and with that dismiss both the severity and prevalence. It is common to have developed and maintained coping mechanisms that no longer serve a purpose yet have become habitual and with that familiar. Therapy is a place where thoughts and feelings are explored, validated, and with that normalized. Healing occurs through self-discovery and the sense of empowerment that accompanies this.

Stuck, riding the struggle bus, and going through the motions sounds about right. You’ve read the self-help books, listened to the podcasts, and you’ve talked to your best friend Joe. And it still isn’t cutting it. The healing you need is deep and you’re not sure how to get there. That’s fair. And that’s where therapy and counselling come into the mix. You don’t have to figure all of this out on your own, scrolling social media, or with meditations and deep breathing (even though, those are great too). You deserve some serious relief and I can help you get there.

Life happens, I understand. We all go through our ups and downs every now and then. Facing your challenges alone can be quite difficult. In my practice, I support clients aged 16+ who are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, behavioural concerns as well as trauma/PTSD. I also work with clients who would like to address their overall emotional wellbeing, process grief and loss, or adjust to difficult life transitions.

Change and healing are possible and you don't have to do it alone. As a therapist, I take a holistic, non-pathologizing, and neurodivergent affirming approach to helping my clients heal from trauma, find peace with themselves and their emotions, cope with life challenges, and cultivate gentle self-compassion. I support adults (18+) and couples who struggle with a variety of challenges, and as a late diagnosed neurodivergent therapist, I have a special passion in working with late-diagnosed ADHD and autism. I also support parents in navigating the challenges of fertility, pregnancy, parenthood, and postpartum anxiety/depression.
