I work mainly with women who are struggling with relationship issues, loss/grief, anxiety, boundaries, divorce, or low self-esteem as well as those in life transitions.
As a psychotherapist, I bring over 20 years of past experience in Christian ministry and journalism. Your story is uniquely yours. I will help you talk about the hard parts of your life story, understand how it's shaped you and set goals for the way forward. As I ask questions, I'll listen with curiosity to create a safe space that brings clarity, new meaning and hope. Whether you want to reduce stress and anxiety, navigate difficult relationships, or recover from loss, I'm committed to having conversations that allow you to process your thoughts, emotions and actions, gain perspective and find freedom from stuck places.

My life has been a roller coaster of ups and downs that included: family dysfunction, divorce, radical career changes, unexpected deaths, a loved one's self harm struggles, and body image challenges.
Does it feel like you're floundering in a place you don't recognize? Do you feel alone? Are you dealing with issues that you never imagined you would be dealing with? Are you new to Canada? Life often doesn't play out the way we expect and those whammies can throw us off course in a split second. Reaching out for support is the first step to getting back on track.

Whether a child is dealing with anxiety, depression, grief and loss, family separation or divorce, or difficulty regulating emotions, Play Therapy helps children learn new tools and develop resilience they can easily transfer into their day to day lives.
Childhood is often thought of as a magical time. The reality is that many kids face problems that leave them feeling worried, scared, angry, sad or confused. This can be difficult and heart breaking for parents trying their best to connect with and support their child. Very often, despite a caregiver’s best effort to learn more and help solve the problem, a child’s response is “I don’t know”. Play therapy can help provide children with the tools they need to express their thoughts and explore their inner world.

Life happens, I understand. We all go through our ups and downs every now and then. Facing your challenges alone can be quite difficult. In my practice, I support clients aged 16+ who are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, behavioural concerns as well as trauma/PTSD. I also work with clients who would like to address their overall emotional wellbeing, process grief and loss, or adjust to difficult life transitions.

Have you ever felt alone, disconnected or abandoned? I’ve had those moments too. Growing up amidst parental mental illness came with a lot of challenges but it also gave me compassion and understanding. We needed the support of a caring community of family and friends to help us walk through many difficult times. My lived experiences inspired me to study psychology and human behavior for much of my adult life. This pursuit has provided me with the opportunity to help others so they can feel supported on their journey.

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?
Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.
What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?
There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioural, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.
When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?
When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.
How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
