Do you feel like life is dragging you down? Like you are just getting through each day rather than enjoying what life has to offer? Or do you have a child or teen that seems overwhelmed or stressed out? Or a child who is struggling to manage their behaviour? Now, more than ever, life feels tough and people of all ages are feeling anxious, depressed and burnt out. Pushing these feelings aside is probably not working for you. It doesn't have to be this way. I believe therapy is an effective way to gain control and to improve mental health so that you or your child can thrive in their daily life.

In today’s world, many individuals find themselves struggling with anxiety and depression. It could be triggered by life transitions, past traumas, or the complexities of modern living. No matter the cause, these challenges do cast a dark shadow over every aspect of life. Anxiety might show up as constant worry, restlessness, or panic attacks while depression can engulf one in feelings of sadness, hopelessness or disconnect from everyone else. Left unaddressed, these conditions can erode self-esteem, relationships and hinder personal and professional fulfillment.

I believe in, and have extensive expertise in using evidence-based practices (EMDR, ERP/ExRP) to treat PTSD, anxiety, and OCD.
If you are experiencing anxiety that can be debilitating, the effects of trauma that has not been processed or is "stuck", life can seem like a mountain that is too high to climb. What you are doing now, by seeking help, is a huge first step. There is hope, and I can help you discover and strengthen the skills required to get you where you'd like to be.

Are you feeling disconnected from yourself, unable to access a version of you that feels trapped within? You are not alone. Specializing in facilitating growth in adolescents and adults, I work with clients who may be struggling with anxiety or depression stemming from self-worth concerns, past hurtful experiences, or obsessive thoughts and behaviours. Wounds from hurtful experiences can significantly impact how we perceive ourselves, the world, and others. These wounds may prevent you from living a life aligned with your true wants and values.

Anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD: a common thread in all of these issues is trauma. Whether it's a high-conflict or abusive relationship, a life-threatening event, unresolved childhood trauma, a painful social situation, or a chaotic world, trauma can have a deep & enduring impact. Many people choose trauma informed therapy to access a rich & comprehensive roadmap for cultivating inner peace, self-confidence, personal efficacy, & a positive outlook on life in the wake of loss, adversity, & tragedy. Research indicates that with concerted effort the vast majority of trauma survivors can experience significant post traumatic growth.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
