In my practice, I strive to provide a safe and supportive environment in which my clients can work toward their goals. I employ evidence-based methods, meaning that I integrate current research findings with my clinical expertise to determine the most effective course of therapy. While my theoretical orientation is largely cognitive-behavioral (CBT), I also draw on solution-focussed, experiential, and humanistic approaches. My main areas of expertise include depression, anxiety problems, stress management, and anger management.

I am a registered psychotherapist providing counselling to families, adults and couples. My specialized expertise is in anxiety, depression, ADHD and ASD, giftedness, acute and chronic medical conditions, special needs and vicarious trauma for professionals and care-givers. I teach mindfulness as a way of finding peace in the present moment. Mindfulness strategies develop awareness of thoughts, feelings and automatic stress responses, so that we can learn to pause, stay calm, and choose how we respond in challenging interactions.

Whether you feel stuck in a loop or trying to adjust to changing life circumstances, if you are feeling debilitated by fear, apathy, frustration, anger or isolation; therapy can help. Exploring your emotions, thinking patterns and automated behaviours within the framework of your own life story is often considered a liberating journey. A journey that can be creative and playful as much as it is informative and containing.

Our most fundamental need is to be seen, heard and accepted as we are. It is no surprise that the strongest determining factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. Positive change happens when we become more like ourselves rather than trying to be something others want us to be. Our team of experienced psychotherapists are here to support individuals, couples and families with their journeys towards greater wholeness and authenticity. We work with the mind, emotions and nervous system to break unhealthy thinking patterns, unburden emotional pain and trauma, build healthy self-esteem, and find deeper meaning in life.

You’re dealing with a lot; feeling guilty and confused. Guilty for not loving more or trying harder. They’re telling you these things - it must be true, right? They were charismatic and charming, showering you with PDA and compliments, but it all changed. You’re embarrassing they say, and now you feel trapped and broken. You’re not alone. It's not your fault. You Google “abusive relationships” and read about narcissistic abuse. That’s your life! You need guidance. I know this because I needed it too. I chased “good enough” trying to “behave well” for my family. After college, I married and divorced a narcissist who always blamed me.

My goal is to provide a safe space to explore & process your thoughts, emotions, & life situations, no matter how big or small. I understand that each individual's story is unique, & I allow for discovery to occur in a fully confidential, non-judgemental space.

Narcissistic Personality (NPD) Counsellors

What type of therapy is best for narcissistic personality disorder?

Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is best treated with talk therapy, which could involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, gestalt therapy, or similar approaches. A therapist will help a patient uncover the feelings that may drive their behavior and discover how to engage with themselves and those around them with greater empathy and understanding, fewer demands, and less defensiveness, with the goal of developing a more authentic sense of self that enables healthier relationships.

How do therapists treat NPD?

By developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and continually focusing patients on relationships, community, and connection, a therapist, through talk therapy, may be able to help someone with NPD change. In sessions, a therapist will help an individual achieve relief from their current stressors, including the treatment of co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression. A therapist may also help an individual to recognize unhealthy coping mechanisms, learn new ways of interacting with others, and eventually become able to feel and display empathy.

Can a narcissist be cured with therapy?

Therapy can be effective. After a serious setback or great loss, someone with NPD may be forced to recognize that they are not immune to life’s challenges. That can spur feelings of melancholy and depression that lead them to seek professional help. Once an individual decides to seek help, they have already taken a step that the majority of those with NPD never will. Still, people with NPD often quit therapy as they naturally resist feeling vulnerable, being challenged, or admitting to flaws.

How can you get narcissistic personality disorder treatment for someone?

It is notoriously difficult to convince someone with NPD to seek help. With their feelings of superiority, they may be unlikely to recognize or acknowledge that they have a problem, or that their problem is narcissism. Sometimes, they are aware that they are arrogant and that others resent them but they don’t see it as a problem because they are convinced of their superiority. People with NPD have trouble maintaining relationships, but family members and others who do feel close to them, and whose presence they value, may be able to encourage them to seek therapy.
