I have extensive experience utilizing CBT, ERP, and ACT to help clients with OCD and anxiety disorders.
Do you have thoughts that scare you or make you feel ashamed? Do you wonder why you're having them and what they mean? Does it feel wrong/irresponsible/risky/dangerous to ignore the thoughts? You try to solve, figure out, and get rid of the thoughts quickly. You argue with the thoughts, but your mind argues back. You spend so much time distracting yourself and avoiding anyone or anything that triggers them. You’d give anything for the horrible thoughts/feelings to stop, but no matter what you do they keep coming back. You just want to feel better and live a normal life. If this sounds like you, I might be a great therapist for you.

If you are looking for a therapist that understands your anxiety, depression, or OCD, I'm here.
I work with all sorts of people, but 2SLGBTQ+ issues and the challenges of being queer in a majority heterosexual world are often the centre of conversation. I focus on helping people to understand and express their identity in the context of the intersection between 2SLGBTQ+ issues and the mental health struggles that accompany this journey, such as anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Many people in and out of the 2SLGBTQ+ community are struggling with anxious or intrusive thoughts, dealing with family rejection or loss, and experiencing depression. It's time to take control of our identities.

It isn’t necessary to stay stuck (or alone) in painful situations or challenging circumstances. Therapy/counselling provides an opportunity to uncover and discover new understandings, strengths and resiliencies in self (and others). Therapy provides a safe space to develop action plans to explore difficult life and relationship (couple, family/parenting, separation) issues or work/career concerns. Therapy also provides a safe space to explore and develop skills in managing mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, OCD, ODD, etc. No problem is too big for therapy. Clinical Supervision is also available.

I understand that every person is unique and has different needs. I take time to understand a client’s natural strengths. Working alongside them, clients are able to develop new skills and resources to support them in a way that is complementary and fitting to their lifestyle. With specialized training in trauma, I work with clients who have experienced sexual, physical, emotional and/or financial abuse. Additionally, I work with clients who would like support with anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, and relationships.

Life experiences can hinder our emotional, mental, or spiritual growth, making it difficult to move forward in an effective way. My experience has been working with teens, men, and women and their issues with trauma, addictions, OCD, eating disorders, and anxiety. I am passionate about helping my clients understand how the brain works and taking a strength-based approach to developing skills. The research focus of my thesis was on resiliency in Indigenous adults with FASD. Together, we can find the power within you.

How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
