My wish is to help women become more aware of the connection between emotions, thoughts and behaviours.
I work exclusively with women navigating the challenges embedded in the second half of life. It is a stage of life that deserves our attention. As earlier roles, responsibilities, and identities change, or fall away, some women feel the sense of a "void". It's common for women at this stage to experience confusion, loneliness, fear, or anxiety. Who are we without our earlier conditioned identities? How do we learn to thrive with the changes, honoring and caring for ourselves as we go forward?

Feeling disconnected from our partners is a difficult and, at times, distressing experience. You may find yourselves stuck in a cycle of conflict that feels impossible to change. The good news is you and your partner are not alone, this happens to many couples and therapy is an effective tool to (re)establishing a secure emotional connection and deeper intimacy with your partner and with yourself. Through Emotionally Focused Therapy we will identify the current cycle you are experiencing and then create new patterns of interaction that will bring you emotionally closer as a couple and strengthen your connection to one another.

I’m trained and skilled in women's wellness and perinatal mental health.
Feeling stuck? Have you noticed a decline in your mood? Are negative thoughts (the "what ifs") becoming more difficult to ignore? Are you struggling with managing a difficult relationship and setting boundaries? Maybe you feel that being a new parent is not what you expected? Are you anticipating to, or going through a period of uncertainty or a life transition? Life is too short to surrender to overwhelming thoughts and feelings. With over a decade of experience in the mental health field, I can appreciate the need for time and a safe space to process, problem solve and learn strategies and skills to help you become your best self.

It’s difficult to watch your usually thoughtful child/teen struggling with their big emotions. Your child who is usually wise beyond their years becomes quickly unglued. You’re pretty sure that anxiety, worries or low self-esteem are hiding under the big tears, emotional meltdowns, ‘sassy’ attitude and anger. While you desperately want to be there to support your child and help them through this turbulent time, the accumulation of stressors from the demands of life and parenting through a pandemic make it hard for you to be the parent you want to be in those moments.

If you feel sad, stressed, anxious or depressed, no purpose, I can help. I work with clients to achieve inner peace, optimal health, true joy, & lasting success in their personal and professional lives. Most of them feel stressed out, anxious, sad, or can't get stuff done, are close to burnout, and are secretly (or openly) struggling with their own mental and physical health. Some also want to get off some medications and don't know how to do it without having awful withdrawal symptoms. Maybe they are also struggling with memory issues, weight issues, CPTSD, hormonal issues, and other issues affecting their brain and mental health.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
