With 15 years of experience, I look to nurture safe relationships and acknowledge this as the most powerful tool when working with traumatized parts. Sexualized violence can cripple us in many ways. Trauma symptoms can fade and be put in the past for good, please know that lasting healing is possible. Progress indicators include feeling stronger emotionally, an increase in self-worth, and a decrease in triggers which help us feel present and connected to others. Sessions are paced at your speed. Healing is possible, and you have the right to feel it. Warmly, Selina.MSW, BSW, RSW.

I am a clinical psychologist who specializes in the treatment of eating disorders and/or trauma in adults 25 and older. While these diagnoses often have co-occuring issues (e.g., addiction, depression, anxiety), I am not a generalist practitioner. This means that I do not treat people with issues (e.g., addiction, depression, or anxiety) unless there is also eating disorders or trauma-related issues. This is because I spend my time enhancing my skills in treating eating disorders and trauma; therefore, this is where my strengths lie and these are the people whom I can best help.

I believe you possess an inherent ability to discover creative solutions to life's challenges. However, certain life circumstances, whether from childhood or later experiences, can disrupt this ability, leaving you feeling 'stuck.' You are the expert of your life and know better than me what to do, for example, with your spouse or job. I specialize only in helping you better understand yourself in situations where it is impossible to do it alone because the answer belongs to the realm of the unconscious. The therapy will provide an opportunity for honest and deep dialogue addressing challenging topics without avoidance.

I have a wait list for new clients. Online appointments are available on Tuesdays and Thursday mornings. My approach to therapy is rooted in the view that people have an inherent capacity for healthiness. I will work with you to uncover that wellbeing again so that you can live the life you deserve with more vitality and authenticity whether you suffer from chronic illness, the burden of a traumatic injury or complex trauma, a diagnosis of PTSD, anxiety, depression, unprocessed grief, or the malaise that comes from being over-stressed and not coping as well as you'd like.

With over 25 years of experience as a therapist in the mental health field, I believe the most crucial aspect of therapy is the relationship between client and therapist. I prioritize understanding your perspective and supporting your personal growth from there. Mental health challenges often lead to avoidance, which can complicate and diminish life satisfaction over time. It can be tough to get out of bed or complete daily tasks, but my training and experience equip me to help you reclaim a fulfilling life.

I am currently a Master’s level MA in Counselling Psychology practicum student who is qualified to practice onsite under the clinical supervision of an approved practicum Supervisor. I recognize that feeling stuck is a universal human experience, one that can overwhelm individuals amidst life’s daily challenges. Often, what holds us back isn’t just the visible issue at hand, but the intricate web of emotions and past experiences woven beneath it. In my practice, I cultivate a supportive and non-judgmental space where individuals can freely explore their thoughts, feelings, experiences, and therapeutic goals.

You’re exhausted and grumpy. You thought having a kid would make your family complete, but now all you and your partner talk about are diapers and schedules, and who is (or isn’t) taking care of the kids. It’s hard to hold onto the joy everyone tells us our kids should bring. You worry that things will never get better, and that you and your partner will just grow further and further apart. Even worse, you’re starting to resent your partner, your kid, and everyone else that makes it look so easy to have the perfect little family. It’s so lonely feeling like the only one who is struggling with life and family these days.

Avail. Evenings Mon & Tues. Sometimes in life, we just need additional support. I offer sessions to adolescents, adults & couples going through a variety of issues. We will often identify difficulties in interpersonal relationships (romantic, familial, work or otherwise) that may be causing distress. Challenging relationships can take a toll on our mental health and well-being. Some topics addressed include boundaries, attachment, and communication. I have an easygoing and supportive approach and believe you know yourself best. I encourage open communication throughout treatment on what is working & what's not working for you!

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.
Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.
Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.
Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
