At New Heights, we specialize in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. We are proud to say that we are Vancouver's only such Clinic. OCD is often recognized and treated as any other anxiety disorder resulting in treatment that is non-effective, and, at times, counter productive. Although OCD is an anxiety-based disorder, the treatment protocols are unique and highly specialized. It is our belief that OCD warrants its own specialty, and we are committed to providing evidence based therapy that reflects current research and best practice. We acknowledge the degree to which this condition is under-serviced and under-recognized amongst mental health professionals and the public mental health system.
If you're suffering from this condition, you'll be looking for the type of treatment that addresses your specific symptoms. You may be reluctant to describe your symptoms to a professional for fear of being judged, misunderstood or mislabeled. Unfortunately, there are very few counsellors/psychologists who truly understand how to treat with this condition. Quite often, OCD is misdiagnosed, leading to an inappropriate treatment focus. Choosing professionals who can properly assess this condition is extremely important. Our clinicians are professionally trained OCD therapists and active members of the International OCD Foundation. Most of our clinicians have extensive experience in outpatient mental health programs and have worked with a range of mental health conditions.
OCD is an insidious disorder that it often attaches itself to those things that are most valued by an individual. It can cause a person to question their own values, motives and intent. Each OCD sub-type requires a unique understanding and approach. We treat all types: violent/sexual obsessions; SOCD; contamination; postpartum OCD; POCD; compulsive checking; ROCD; sensorimotor OCD, existential OCD, religiosity/scrupulosity; order/symmetry and more. We also treat many of the miscellaneous presentations not mentioned in this list. The shame and stigma associated with this condition may be preventing you from getting the help that you need. A common feature of OCD is the intense shame and guilt that it produces, leading a person to feel unworthy and underserving. Perhaps you’re constantly seeking reassurance for yourself and from others, to degree that it is causing a strain on your relationships. OCD can be so mentally/physically exhausting that it can diminish your quality of life and your relationships. At New Heights, we understand this condition.
