In my practice, I use a strengths-based approach and draw from several evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Narrative Therapy, Play Therapy, and Mindfulness.
I’ve been working in my field for 14 years, and have been offering therapy services to school-age children and youth since 2018. I’m bilingual in French and English and my office is conveniently located on Prospect street, with a lot of free parking. Most of my experience has been working on various mental health struggles such as anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, adjustment disorders, grief and loss, emotional distress, and self-harming. I also enjoy working with families on communication, parenting, sleep hygiene, and challenges related to transitions such as separation, divorce, blended families, and military relocations.

My practice is integrative and I draw from modalities in Trauma Therapy, Somatic Therapy, Sex Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy to tailor an approach that meets you where you are.
I believe in a holistic approach to wellness and am committed to creating a welcoming and non-judgmental environment. I want to ensure clients feel they can show up as their authentic selves and feel safe, seen, heard, and valued. I work collaboratively with clients to capitalize on their inherent strengths and skills, and to cultivate greater feelings of connection, authenticity, and healing in their lives. While I bring knowledge and expertise in certain areas, I know that clients are the experts of their own lives and experiences. I strive to honour and value this knowledge as we work together.

Drawing from evidence-based approaches such as Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT), Humanistic Approaches, Person-Centered Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Inner Child work, Play-based therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) and mindfulness;.
I have a passion for working with adolescents and teens; providing a safe and compassionate space where their voices can be heard, respected, and validated. I appreciate and value a collaborative approach with families and support systems, while also working to honor the autonomy of my youth clients. In my work with adults, I like to help bring focus to those past experiences and relationships that likely have shaped and influenced the ways they respond to current life stressors. We do this through inner child and parts work.

Much of my work is based in Narrative Therapy, Acceptance + Commitment Therapy, and Solution-Focused approaches.
Hello, nice to meet you! My name is Katherine, and I am an LCT. I believe it is important for all of us to create a life that is not only fulfilling and based in personal values, but also one that feels sustainable and realistic. We live in a world where stressors exist all around us, and from time to time, we will inevitably feel its weight. I hope to help guide and support you through the ups and downs. In return, you can gain a clearer understanding of your circumstances and feel grounded in your path forward.

I provide counselling services to adults of all ages and adolescents (aged 14+). I believe each client is unique and tailor my practice to each individual. I know that reaching out is difficult, so an empathetic, anti-oppressive approach to care is my top priority. I am trained in various modalities, including dialectical behaviour therapy, EMDR, narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, and cognitive behavioural therapy. My approach is variable, depending on what you would like to work through. I often draw from many of these practices.

My background is in systems theory; the idea that everyone is connected to those around them, with influence between all those people, organizations, and cultures. My approach to therapy is primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy but I also see a need for insight into the meaning that we make/have made of things and how that impacts our present. Therapy then, involves opening space for a person to increase awareness of their own process and to see alternative perspectives, thereby empowered to make different life decisions. It is so exciting to see someone realize that they have the power to change their perspective and their life!

I really don’t have an ideal client in mind. Every client has different needs and requires somewhat of a customized approach. I enjoy helping people so anyone I’m helping I’m getting a sense of satisfaction from.

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioural therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds — perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
