With a background as an elementary school teacher, school counsellor, and school psychologist, I have a range of experiences working with children of all ages, and accept referrals from age 5 to 16. Play therapy and expressive arts are used to help improve problem-solving skills, enhance social connections, develop emotional regulation, and enhance self-esteem. I believe it really does "take a village" of adults at home, community and school to support the healthy growth and development of a child, and reaching out for support can be part of that process. I enjoy helping children and teens discover their strengths and emphasizing areas in which they are already successful, in order to build resilience, optimism, and a growth mindset, and to help them find ways to solve problems. I offer counselling with solution-focused, hope-centered, play-based, and cognitive-behavioural approaches.
Additionally, If your child is struggling in school and you would like a better understanding of their intellectual, academic or behavioural strengths/areas of need, a psychoeducational assessment can provide insight into how they learn best, with recommendations for home and school to further develop specific skills.
