There have been times in my life when I was convinced that I was the problem; seeing myself this way led to a great deal of confusion, hopelessness, loneliness and desperation. A turning point for me was discovering the statement, “the person is not the problem, the problem is the problem”; this principle helped separate problems from my sense of who I am, it eased the burden of blame and judgment; helped me to take new responsibility for the challenges I was experiencing, and reminded me that along with challenges I also have skills, values, hopes, commitments and aspirations.
In my counselling work, I facilitate change through listening, asking questions and creating dialogue with people seeking counselling. We explore the person’s experience of challenges, seek to re-discover the person's skills and values, and generate new understandings about the person’s identities, relationships, and place in the world.
As someone who also experiences challenges, I can stand in solidarity with you and join alongside in your struggles with challenges. I am interested in truly understanding your values and beliefs so that our conversations are relevant and in-tune with what you want. Re-Membering Bereavement Support Group
This support group looks to help those experiencing grief and loss to maintain their relationship with loved ones who have died. Participants are led through exercises which invite stories about the strengths and values of their loved one, how these strengths and values live on in the present; we seek to help participants reclaim the voice of their loved one, and learn how their loved ones’s values can continue to guide participants into the future. Finally, we look help participants reconnect with others who are also interested in telling stories and maintaining traditions that honour deceased loved ones
