I integrate an attachment and trauma informed approach, weaving in modalities such as Somatic work, informed in Narrative Therapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
Therapy - the ebb and flow of healing. The navigation of relationships. The vulnerability we cultivate towards authenticity. Working through temporary discomfort to see the change and growth within ourselves. Acknowledging the fear with the unfamiliar. Seeking therapy can often be a difficult step and perhaps unpredictable. AND with that unpredicaibility, therapy may help you reconnect with curiousity, compassion and understanding. Having been through the therapeutic journey myself, please know that you do not have to walk along this journey on your own.

Teens are naturally wired to look for and try new things. Sometimes trying new things and searching for independence can be a step towards helping teens find purpose in their life. I have been working with adolescents, teens, adults, and families for over 20 years. I began my career working in schools with many neurodiverse students, supporting them and helping their families advocate for the services they needed and overcoming the barriers that often stand in their way. From here I moved to the role of a guidance counsellor where I found my passion helping many preteens and teens overcome obstacles in their lives.

I offer a very down-to-earth approach to understanding and working with anxiety, trauma, grief/loss and life transitions.
Therapy is as much about learning as it is about "un-learning". I'm passionate about supporting people to identify, challenge and replace their self-limiting stories (i.e.: "I'm not good enough", "I don't belong", "my needs don't matter") with more adaptive and affirming beliefs. With compassion, skill, and a healthy dose of humour, I invite people to get curious about the parts of themselves that feel stuck, lost, reactive, or broken. By befriending these parts and honouring their survival strategies, they inevitably learn to soften the list of "shoulds", judgements, and fears.

Sometimes we need help to heal from things we have done, or things that were done to us. You’re here because you think it might be time to talk to someone, too.

I utilize an integrative approach to narrative therapy through modalities such as Behavior Therapy (Cognitive, Dialectical), trauma theory, and more.
Wai-Han (慧娴) is my name. Wai: wisdom; Han: elegance. Born and raised in a shame-based culture, from a young age things were spoken over me that were the opposite of this, that I did not measure up to my name. I experienced the power of words- that they can speak life or death- for me evoking self-rejection. Through my journey toward healing, spoken words brought liberating life to me. Thus, I am passionate about speaking life into people’s lives, even while they struggle with depression, anxiety, or challenging relationships. I love seeing individuals find more internal freedom, and feel empowered & in control of their experiences.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
