Focusing most of my clinical expertise on couple work, I have obtained advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT).
I believe connection is crucial in our lives and when our connection to ourselves and others is suffering, life can feel lonely and dark. Therefore, my practice is dedicated to helping people find the light in their life again. Whether that light is found through deepening and healing the relationship with yourself or with a partner/family member, I provide a safe and transparent environment for you to do the work you need to. Helping individuals, couples and families apply the awareness they have gained towards making positive changes in their lives is something I never tire of - I love what I do!

I use an integrative model including; EMDR, CBT, Internal Family Systems, Attachment Theory, DBT, and Emotionally Focused Therapy, among others.
Reaching out is a brave step. Sometimes stress builds, life happens or our history including trauma, unresolved conflict or relationship patterns can leave us feeling stuck. Playing the same tapes over and over. A negative relationship with ourselves. Facing the same patterns or facing unfamiliar situations, challenges or decisions. It can be exhausting and feel isolating. If you are looking to address the root of the issue and find support through change, then reach out. I am an easy-going, straightforward, therapist and conflict resolution specialist with 25 years experience. Book a session at "Safe Harbour Therapy" website.

In my private practice work, I am a Clinical Associate at Prairie Psychology working under the supervision of Dr. Darek Dawda (Ph.D., C.Psych.). I have extensive experience working with trauma (childhood, adulthood, intergenerational), relationships, attachment, gender issues, identity, life transitions, depression, anxiety, stress, and emotional regulation. I believe strongly in cultural humility, and incorporate each person's unique history. Together, we may establish goals and work towards balance in a safe, respectful, compassionate, and authentic environment.

I am primarily trained in Narrative Therapy (framing our problems and healing in the context of the stories we tell about our lives) and EFT (identifying the emotions behind our behaviours), however, my interest in IFS (understanding the competing parts of our minds and how they're trying to help us) has led me to incorporate elements of it in my work.
I strongly believe in client-centered therapy, trusting that the client is the expert on their own life and that my role is to offer a safe space and professional support for the client as they pursue their goals. I work with my clients to understand the motivations behind their thoughts, feelings, and actions and model a posture of empathy and curiosity towards these parts of themselves. I have worked with a wide variety of clients and issues, including families, couples, youth, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and BPD.

I have training in a number of therapeutic modalities, including Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples, EMDR, and DBT.
We all experience difficult events in our lives. Some of these events happened a long time ago, and have influenced the way that we interact with ourselves and the world. Some of these events are more recent and throw us off the course we were on. We can become stuck in ways of being that are no longer helpful to us end up causing distress. I believe therapy can be a helpful way to process what has or is happening in our lives and encourage healthy adaptation and growth, so we can live our lives with more peace, happiness and connection.

I offer Emotionally Focused Therapy.
"Better communication" is how most people summarize their therapeutic goals for a reason. Sometimes it seems like an impossible task to feel understood by others. I am deeply committed to comforting and guiding couples, families and individuals who struggle with the internal and external conflicts that result from feeling misunderstood and the feeling of misunderstanding. I facilitate improvements in communication with an approach that streamlines the process of therapy by working on the foundation of our issues, which helps alleviate the issues themselves.

Besides individual therapy, I offer EFT and Gottman relational therapy and attachment-focused family therapy.
"Why me? Why do I need to feel the pain?" Most of my clients asked some similar questions at the beginning of their therapy. They may be disconnected from others and being isolated. Therapy can offer them opportunities to make sense of their experiences, understand more about how things had happened, and rebuild relationships among themselves and others. During the therapeutic journey, my clients may take different perspectives to make sense of their experiences and learn new life skills to cope with their distress. They may feel more comfortable feeling uncomfortable and able to make new choices.

I draw from evidence-based therapeutic modalities, such as EMDR, CBT, DBT, EFT, Gottman Method, Imago therapy, and IFS.
Accepting new couples - Struggling with relationships can be overwhelming. Battling anxiety and low mood can be draining. Grief can be life changing. Stress and trauma can be paralyzing. You’re not alone and I am happy to help. I am here to listen and offer support in a space filled with comfort, knowledge, and without judgement. A space where we can work together, as a team, to overcome these challenges. I am committed to building a trusting and collaborative relationship with each person, where they not only feel heard, valued, and understood, while having something to take away from each session.

Therapy can be an important tool to help people to connect not only to each other, but also to themselves. We as human beings desire to be deeply known by our friends, partners, family and the communities we belong to, but we also long to know ourselves and live not only to survive, but to thrive in our own skin.

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
