In some circumstances I use DBT (dialectical behaviour therapy) to provide coping tools to manage the stress and challenges in your life.
As a therapist, my focus is to create an environment for you to accomplish your goals. This could include feeling better, improving your relationships, enhancing your parenting skills, coping with grief and loss, overcoming past trauma, or addressing obstacles that are adversely affecting your mental health. I have over 30 years experience working with children and adults as a social worker in schools, mental health, and child welfare settings. With compassion and caring, I use a variety of tools adapted to what is right for you and your situation.

I make use of a wide range of techniques – including EMDR with adults, CBT, DBT, MIG, art and play therapy, attachment-based, and mindfulness-based practices – to collaboratively build a treatment plan that is personal and authentic to each client and their struggles.
Are you feeling overwhelmed by life’s challenges? Depression, anxiety, grief, stress, family conflict, and other hardships can make peace and happiness feel out of reach. But it doesn’t have to be – together we can find a path forward. With over 14 years of experience in helping professions, my practice is dedicated to supporting individuals and families (including kinship/foster settings) who are facing challenges like anxiety, depression, self-esteem, trauma, grief, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts.

I specialize in providing Brainspotting Therapy (which is a newer alternative to EMDR), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
Hi, I am so glad our virtual paths have crossed. I believe that we all have the answers within our inner selves and are doing the best we can with what we know at any given time. Our inner world helps us understand what’s going on in our minds and bodies that’s invisible to the eye. I believe in a person-guided practice where I support/guide you to discover your authentic self. If you are ready to start exploring your inner world I would be honoured to walk alongside you.

Rooted in OT theory, I practice within a DBT framework and have completed DBT training through Behavior Tech.

Working with an experienced therapist to develop effective coping skills can help you to feel more in control by learning to manage these feelings and the thoughts that accompany them. With over 15 years of experience, I have a passion for working with teens and adults who are struggling with mood disorders, personality disorders and anxiety disorders. Focusing on emotional regulation and distress tolerance, we can work to develop skills that enable you participate in and enjoy life.

My journey in the helping field has included working with individuals and families for more than 10 years. I very much welcome the opportunity to work with a diverse array of clients as I work from a multitude of approaches that include anti-oppression, feminist, client-centered, Indigenous and strengths-based. It has always been a passion of mine to work as a clinical social work therapist and therefore have a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Manitoba. Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
