Often, we try to "unstick" ourselves by attempting to force change without acknowledging the roots of our own and others' behavior. Yet, an upset child is more likely to stop crying when their tears are acknowledged and understood rather than neglected or met with demands to change how they feel. For a variety of reasons (family dynamics, cultural norms, trauma, etc.), many of us carry emotional experiences that are still waiting to be seen, understood, and met with care.
