I have training in several research-based treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for anxiety, depression, insomnia and suicide, Imagery Rehearsal Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy Accelerated Resolution Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy.
I enjoy helping people make positive changes in their life. I have a special interest in those who have experienced trauma and related symptoms. I’ve had the privilege to work with individuals in a mental health setting. This is interesting and challenging work that I enjoy immensely. It has allowed me to develop my skills to help people with a wide range of conditions and concerns. One of the most rewarding aspects of this work is helping people overcome the effects of traumas experienced in their lives. I have specialized that can help individuals not only improve their symptoms but resolve the trauma that has led to them.

My trauma-informed, eclectic approach draws on techniques associated with person-centered therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, and solution-focused therapy.
Hi everyone! I am a master's level counselling psychology practicum student that is qualified to practice at JK Senchuk Counselling under the clinical supervision of Julia Senchuk. There are moments in our lives where we may each lose sight of our sense of purpose. Life transitions, relational turmoil, and social pressures may blur our perspective. I believe wholeheartedly growth is largely attributed to living authentically - staying true to our values, identity, and aspirations. Together, we can discover your own voice and pathway for healing.

I commonly use a blend of practices from Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Positive Psychology, Internal Family Systems and/or Narrative Therapy.
As a therapist and a mom of two toddlers, I very honestly understand the challenges that can come along with not only parenting but the family planning and pregnancy stages too. I am honoured to be able to bring these perspectives to my mental health and psychotherapy practice. I enjoy working collaboratively with caregivers who are feeling stuck in their identity, overwhelmed with their new roles or simply curious to unpack parts of themselves as they move through life transitions. Whether this shows up as grief, trauma, anxiety or depression, please know that all parts of you are welcome in my space.

My work is person-centered and influenced by attachment-based, narrative and interpersonal neurobiology, and CBT among others, but I tailor my therapy to fit your individual needs.
I offer counselling for adults, couples, and teens. My goal is to provide you with a safe, trusting space where you will be heard and understood. I have experience working with issues of grief, trauma, PTSD, anxiety, adoption & fostering, life & cultural transitions, mental health, interpersonal conflict, parenting, marriage, and faith and spirituality. It takes courage to reach out when life gets hard. Maybe you’ve made efforts to resolve a stress, only to find that it was a temporary fix. I would be honored to walk with you in the process of exploring together the root of the issue in order to heal and find hope for the future.

I provide many modalities of therapy, but I focus on psychodynamic therapy, CBT, DBT, attachment therapy, and motivational interviewing.
Sometimes, feeling alone is experienced in an environment that seems crowded. This contradiction can leave us confused and overwhelmed because finding yourself in a world that doesn’t make sense is hard. If this sounds familiar, I may be able to help. To me, being a therapist isn’t about fixing, it’s about understanding and building resilience. It’s about finding our place and strengthening our connections to ourselves and to others. My name is Jayme, and I have been a registered social worker for seven years. I have three degrees, all of which have focused on social work, with emphases in clinical studies and behavioral sciences.

I draw from EMDR, brainspotting, narrative, feminist, CBT, and polyvagal approaches.
Accepting new clients. You’re looking for a counsellor who does evidence-based therapy, slathered in a healthy dose of dark humour. I get along famously with people who thought they’d hate therapy. The world is a dumpster fire, so it makes sense you feel like garbage. You're paying attention. I'm not going to gaslight you into thinking everything is fine when it isn't. I want to help you reach your goals in the context of the real world, so you can live to your fullest potential. I'll walk with you into the dark, and dance with you in your happiest moments. I'll pump you up, and I'll also call you on your shit. Let's get you healed.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counsellors

How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?

Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophising or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
