You’re someone who’s always pushing forward, balancing the demands of life, career, and personal goals. You’ve explored self-help resources, dabbled in mindfulness, and perhaps even sought therapy, but still feel like you’re not where you want to be. Overwhelm, anxiety, self-doubt, or maybe ADHD are part of your daily challenges, compounded by the quest for a healthier work-life balance. Your relationships might also reflect this struggle, marked by a tendency to prioritize others’ needs or finding it hard to achieve fulfillment with those closest to you.

Aristotle said, “knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” Life is full of ups and downs, and knowledge is the main strength to manage; it is essential to enjoy an entire life. Mind, body, and spirit in balance are the key to achieving this. Therapy is adding knowledge to your life, but this knowledge is about yourself.

So...you're attracted to emotionally unavailable partners. You overgive, overcompromise, and people-please. You feel anxious when your partner isn’t with you, checking your phone every few minutes to see if they've texted. You're on an emotional roller coaster, feeling terrified of abandonment, panicked during conflict, and at other times, resentful. You struggle setting boundaries and holding them. Maybe your partner (or ex) is full of red flags you missed. Or maybe your new partner is a total green flag, but your anxiety remains. You feel too "needy" and too sensitive, and you try not to show it - but sometimes you can't help it

At some point or another, we have all encountered uncertainties that have surely knocked us down, but I believe that these hardships can be framed in a better and more constructive way. Together, working side-by-side, we will develop the right coping strategies, build up your personal strengths, and better understanding of yourself. Sometimes, what we consider weaknesses are actually concealed strengths and this will be an opportunity to work towards achieving meaningful personal growth. Trust and collaboration are my fundamental pillars of practice, and I believe that these pillars are crucial towards obtaining substantive results.

Are you finding it difficult to cope with life stressors? Is shame and low self-esteem leading you to isolate and impacting your relationships? Perhaps unforeseen circumstances have led you to feeling more anxious and easily overwhelmed. Maybe you are struggling with feelings of depression or feeling exhausted and burnt out with life’s demands. Finding a counsellor and going to therapy can feel daunting. It requires courage and vulnerability to be seen for who we are and to reveal to others what we are going through. But life is not meant to be done on our own.

Is life feeling overwhelming? Are you struggling to find motivation to do simple tasks, or the idea of doing ‘all the things’ just increases your stress and anxiety? Perhaps you find yourself needing to distract with substances, social media, or by binge watching your favourite TV show, only to find that these activities are not actually making you feel better in the long run. Maybe you are already wanting to explore the underlying causes of what has gotten you off track but don’t know where to start.

You are an adult that struggles with problems that may interfere with your relationships and day to day functioning such as anxiety, depression, stress, and low self-esteem. You hold yourself to higher standards than you hold others and feel disappointed when you do not achieve perfection. You may be a partner, parent, or caregiver for other people who you prioritize above yourself. You probably recognize that you have needs that are not getting met, but you struggle to even identify what those needs are. You are looking for solutions that will lead to lasting improvement and you are desperate to feel better.

I work with people who are dealing with a variety of concerns, including relationship issues and histories of interpersonal trauma; lack of motivation; depression &/or anxiety; difficulties with feelings; low self-esteem/self-confidence; and gender or sexual orientation issues. Therapy may also address difficulties managing life transitions; grief and loss; confusion related to personal meaning, direction and values; stress management; aging; and health & mental-health related symptoms. I believe a therapeutic relationship needs to be client-centred, warm, safe, supportive, non-judgmental, compassionate, interactive, and respectful.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
