I’m a Clinical Psychologist, but you might also call me an empowering mentor. I help people who wish they could be proud of themselves but feel embarrassed about their past, their situation or their personality. I guide them so that they can transform the way they see themselves and change some behaviours to become more comfortable in their own skin and work towards achieving their potential. I know from my own path of personal healing and growth that with a strong motivation to change and a good therapist you can go from where you are to where you want to be.

Struggling with anxiety, low self-esteem or depression? You’re not broken, damaged, or a loser. You’re just stuck in patterns that are no longer serving you. For example, the thought of making a mistake, along with the resulting shame and criticism is terrifying so you analyze all options before making a decision, double-triple check all your work, and avoid trying new things. Or you miss out on opportunities because you're trying to prepare for or prevent imagined "what ifs". Similarly, years of criticism have convinced you that you're not good enough, so you compare yourself to others, dwell on your past failures, and give up.

My approach to therapy is empowering, compassionate, and focuses on assisting clients to gain insight in order to enhance their understanding of themselves and their situations. Together we explore possible ways to manage and relieve distress and suffering, and achieve lasting and meaningful change. Within the context of unconditional acceptance and non-judgement, this means clients can develop more adaptive ways of coping, relating to others, develop deeper connections, and be responsible and in control of themselves and their emotions.

As a Registered Social Worker, I seek to include all elements of the person in my practice. I am deeply committed to supporting individuals (teens and adults) facing a myriad of life challenges through a compassionate, person-centered lens. In addition to anxiety and depression, I have a therapeutic focus on the difficulties underlying ADHD and OCD. My journey into social work/therapy was inspired by a personal desire to empower others to overcome obstacles, cultivate resilience, and lead full, meaningful lives through a values and strengths-based framework.

Welcome. Working with a therapist provides the opportunity to explore the things that truly matter to you. Through uncovering the stumbling blocks and triggers that prevent you from being the best version of yourself, we will collaborate together to create self-awareness, self-compassion, and self-acceptance - while determining new avenues to accomplish tangible goals that align with your values. Giving consideration to the 'whole' you is an integral part of the therapeutic process – including those aspects that are painful and deeply imbedded, as well as your strengths, resources and aspirations.

You know that there is more to life and you want it but don't know how to unleash your true potential and take action to shine. Something inside of you is pushing to come out, but you have many negative emotions and thoughts limiting your quality of life, your experiences, and your potential. You want to be free of the constant self-criticism, and negativity that take away your positive energy and bring suffering into your life.

You may not show it, but you feel stuck. Your anxiety and fears prevent you from taking steps forward. Instead, you find yourself procrastinating and avoiding. You are consumed by doubt and overwhelmed by worry and unwanted, intrusive, uncontrollable thoughts. You try hard to avoid those thoughts, but they keep coming back. The more you fight them, the stickier they become. You try to tell yourself that the thoughts are meaningless, but somehow you feel you can never be sure. What if after all, something horrible will happen? What if the thoughts mean something important? Your friends and family keep telling you not to worry and explain that everything is just in your head. This reassurance helps for a bit, but very soon you are back to endless "What if? " questions. You tried therapy before. The therapist tried to convince you that what you fear is unlikely to happen and taught you relaxation, breathing, meditation, and thought records. But it didn't help and made you even more hopeless. You'd like to break free from your worries and fears and start living your life. If you are reading this profile, you may be finally considering making a significant change. We are here to help!

Finding the right therapist can be a long and difficult process, however, it is crucial to find a therapist that can understand, accept and support you. What I offer to my clients is a safe, non- judgemental and confidential environment where they can gain a greater insight on their core strengths and values to help them achieve their therapeutic goals. As someone who was faced with challenges such as ADHD, having a brother with Autism, etc. I can relate to my clients on a more personal level and with this experience I can help you navigate through these tough times. I enjoy working with teenagers, adults, couples, refugees etc.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
