Welcome and I'm glad you're here. Reaching out for help can be difficult and I hope to make this as easy as possible for everyone. My experience has been primarily working with people who have experienced sexual violence in their lives, both recently and in childhood but I work with trauma of all types. Trauma can impact every part of our lives: our mental health, our bodies, our relationships and our spirit. I enjoy walking alongside folx as we explore how life might look different if trauma takes up less space.

I aim to help people explore inner and outer worlds as a way to move through stuckness, to heal, grow awareness of self and other, and to live in to preferred and unique ways of being. We will use imagination, awareness of physical sensation, thoughts and emotions to explore the stories that different parts of you carry. We will develop relationships with these different parts of you - for example we all have inner children, and many of us have critical parts - and find new ways to live with them in your everyday life. My work is informed by Internal Family Systems therapy, interpersonal neurobiology, depth psychology and Carl Jung.

Are you going through a transition in your life that is evoking feelings of anxiety, fear, sadness and overwhelm? Are you feeling stuck making difficult decisions and feeling unsure about what to do next? I have been a practicing clinical social worker/therapist since 2002 and have many years experience working with individuals experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief and loss. I have a special interest in helping people navigate the complex world of grief, loss and periods of transition in their life. I know that therapy can be confronting and I don’t believe in a “one size fits all” approach.

There have been times in my life when I was convinced that I was the problem; seeing myself this way led to a great deal of confusion, hopelessness, loneliness and desperation. A turning point for me was discovering the statement, “the person is not the problem, the problem is the problem”; this principle helped separate problems from my sense of who I am, it eased the burden of blame and judgment; helped me to take new responsibility for the challenges I was experiencing, and reminded me that along with challenges I also have skills, values, hopes, commitments and aspirations.

We all want to live with meaning and purpose—to be authentic, compassionate, accepting, patient, and forgiving with ourselves and the people in our lives. Sometimes difficult life experiences can cause us to lose sight of this genuine way of being, so we become closed off from ourselves and others. In other words, we feel stuck… As a therapist, I offer helpful options to getting unstuck. Together we will begin to explore and understand what has contributed to these blocks, as well as uncovering and applying strengths, resources, and skills towards a solution.

Right from when I was a little girl, I have enjoyed spending time listening to people’s stories. Most of my adult life I have spent as an accountant. However, I found that my true passion was always sitting with clients and not behind a computer. I learned early on that the accounting relationship with clients wasn’t always about numbers. Through additional coursework and involvement in memberships, committees, and boards, I have been able to be a part of facilitating change and growth within the community.

When somebody is suffering in deep distress, depressed, anxious, inhibited or unfulfilled, we know that when one puts one’s sorrows into words, when one talks about it in the presence of somebody who is actually very experienced at listening, trained to listen and adept at analyzing and interpretation, the anxiety lessens. The temptation to act out in ways that are self destructive or destructive to other people minimizes and emotions reduce in intensity.

I firmly believe that everyone's life story has significant value. I have found in my professional and personal life that having meaningful conversations with others helps us understand, inspire, and grow as individuals, and in relationships with others. With this in mind, I encourages openness and acceptance, seeing people’s vulnerability and willingness to look at both their strengths and weaknesses as a brave way to understand one’s self and spark change.

Whatever it is that’s bothering you, there’s no need to struggle alone. Whatever it is, it can help to talk about it. Sometimes we just need someone to really hear us. Sometimes we need to learn new skills to help us cope. Sometimes we need help figuring out how what has happened to us affects how we think, feel and behave. Sometimes we need help to heal from things we have done, or things that were done to us. You’re here because you think it might be time to talk to someone, too.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.
Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.
Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
