My work as a clinical psychologist has given me the opportunity to meet some amazing, courageous people. It's very hard to acknowledge that we may need to face and address painful issues in order to move forward in our lives. I work with adults (18+) who are interested in dealing with challenges ranging from anxiety and depression to Post Traumatic Stress disorder and addictions. My chief joy as a psychologist is to collaborate with my patients and assist them to make real and lasting changes in how they live their lives. Life is not easy, but feeling strong and whole helps us deal with the demands we may encounter.
My intention is to connect with patients in the way that fits best. Rather than adopt a "one style fits all" mentality I am comfortable using several approaches over the course of treatment. We may begin with targeted work on specific symptoms and later find that we also need to address long standing beliefs about the self, other people and the world.
It can be hard to take the first step - many people have never had the opportunity to talk about how they feel and what causes them pain. People often fear they will be judged as "weak" for choosing to seek help. I firmly believe that it is a sign of courage and strength of character to acknowledge our struggles and ask someone else to help.
