I endeavour to help you get to the root of what is causing your distress. I view anxiety, depression, lack of self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and anger as symptoms of unhealed wounds from your painful experiences. Together, we will work through issues and challenges in your life caused by: childhood trauma, significant life changes (divorce, infidelity, job loss, career changes), grief and loss, shock traumas (natural disasters, accidents, diagnosis of a critical illness, experiences of war and terrorism), systemic trauma (experiences of discrimination, inequality, poverty, and the difficulties of immigration).

When we have suffered over a long period of time without much support or compassion, we come to rely on certain ways of being and relating that keep us safe but isolated from ourselves and those we love. This is normal considering what we have experienced. Trauma and lack of early nurturing skew our perceptions of ourselves and the world around us. Neither can be trusted, and this determines how we are in relationship within and with others. At the core of all of this is our longing to be in nurturing relationships because the need to feel loved, wanted, and accepted are so innate in us. Therefore, feeling the converse: rejection and shame is a blow to our very sense of self. We reject because we really want to be needed and accepted, and yet we are afraid. The pain we feel in this dichotomy is profound.

Life has its twists and turns, with joy and sorrow. But sometimes life can throw a curve ball that completely disrupts your way of living. When traumatic events happen, they can cause a variety of different thoughts and feelings that engulf your whole life. It may feel like you’ll never be able to move forward, or be the person you once were. Trauma can tear us down but together we can use it to build you back up. To be stronger and more resilient. To be able to fight back for what you need and what you deserve. Everyone and their experiences are different and therefore need a personalized, holistic approach.

Does any of this sound familiar? You survived emotional neglect. You work hard and are independent. Sometimes, your drive has harmed relationships and partnerships. Perhaps your family members struggle with alcohol or addictions. You often feel isolated and "not enough", and could use help from a person who understands these challenges. If you are Neurodivergent, in Recovery; or considering gender transition, I have specific education + experience to support you (Rainbow Health Ontario provider). I am Autistic (AuDHD), adopted, ACE, trans and in a loving marriage. I work, volunteer and learn in Harm Reduction communities.

Many of my clients come to me dealing with an awareness of the discomforts in their lives that often show up as a result of an over active mind. They have a desire to understand and work towards a more integrated and peaceful life. We often spent time understanding the patterns that link to current behaviours and then focus on how to shift those parts that no longer serve and work towards believing in their ability to navigate and stay centred through the ups and downs of life that are inevitable. My sessions often contain invitations towards mindfulness and somatic awareness in a mind body approach.

When I was 17 I began to have chest pains that were so sharp I couldn’t breathe. I went to the doctor thinking there was something wrong with me. His answer: "you’re just stressed". I had no idea why I was anxious, and nothing seemed to help. I began using addictions to cope with the anxiety, choosing the short-term relief despite the long-term consequences. Eventually those consequences forced me to seek help, and I began my recovery journey. That was eight years ago. Therapy has been life changing for me - I became more calm, happy and connected, and I began to wonder if this was something I could do for others as well.

Just existing in today's world can feel overwhelming on top of whatever unique challenges you may be facing. While it might be tempting to downplay your challenges as insignificant or "not that bad", everyone deserves a space to be seen and understood. As a therapist, my job is not to analyze, diagnose, or pathologize you. Instead, I approach our sessions with genuine curiosity, aiming to help you connect with your inherent ability to heal and thrive.
