Sometimes a person has thoughts, feelings, or beliefs that are upsetting or confusing. Maybe they do things that they wish they wouldn’t, or don’t do things they wish they would. This makes life harder than it needs to be. My focus is on how events and relationships affect functioning and happiness. I use a collaborative, client-centred approach, and work from the belief that everyone is doing the best they can. You don’t have to know what’s wrong in order to meet with me.
While situations can feel hopeless, there are ways to use the science of the brain to find new options. I use EMDR psychotherapy and Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) psychotherapy (borrowing from other modalities when appropriate) to help relieve the symptoms of difficult situations – major, recognisable trauma, and stressful experiences that just feel stuck.
Experience has shown me that behaviours or symptoms that are causing distress have evolved for a reason, even if it’s hard to know why. Our job is to discover the underlying reason, and to work to heal it. Every person has the ability to grow given the right opportunity and support. There is always hope.
