Over the past 15+ years in the field, I have worked with children, youth and adults in community, legal, child protection, corporate and university settings. I have focused my practice on supporting Survivors of violence along their healing journeys (including gender based, domestic, intimate partner, sexual, family, intergenerational, spiritual & community violence). I have extensive experience working with Muslim, racialized and Queer-identified communities in both Canada and the USA, as well as Pakistan and Zanzibar. I also conduct sexual violence prevention at UofT where I work with faculty, staff & students.
I take an intersectional approach that includes individual, family and community. As a first-generation Pakistani-Canadian-Muslim, I provide support that bridges and illuminates the realities of intergenerational individuals/families and their struggles. Taboo topics in racialized and faith-based communities are discussed freely & safely in this space.
I believe in the resiliency of individuals and the possibility of healing; this is explored through storytelling, mindfulness and the arts. My therapeutic approach is always compassionate, client-centered, non-judgmental, anti-oppressive and anti-racist.
