My areas of practice include depression, loss and grief, anxiety, self-esteem, identity, relationships, family dynamics, career transitions, and work-related stress.
Stories—the stories we tell ourselves—are powerful, and yet we can change them. Often, the first step toward change is being open to learning about yourself and the roles you play in your stories. It takes courage to do this work. I’m here to guide you on your journey of self-understanding, acceptance, and empowerment in a safe and supportive environment. As a therapist, I’ll meet you where you are. Whether you have never been to therapy or have lots of experience, we’ll focus on what is important to you and help you gain a new perspective on your life.

Life can be hard. We all go through times when the daily tasks of living seem overwhelming and the joy we used to feel is gone. Many of us try to tough it out. We put on a good face to the outside world but inside we are in despair. If this sounds like you and you're ready to make a change, therapy can help. I work with adults and older teens who are suffering from a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, grief, stress, trauma and career issues.

Equine Solace is dedicated to support the emotional health and well being of persons dealing with trauma, PTSD, abuse and/or loss. As a retired police officer, I have witnessed the trauma and grief associated with life on the front lines. These experiences led me to seek new and innovative ways to support people dealing with trauma and PTSD. I am a Registered Counselling Therapist Candidate with NSCCT (RCT-C18-015), supervised by Brenda Johnson (RCT 15-002), a certified Mental Health Professional with PRO-EFW (260) and Professional Member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) ( 10005030).

I understand what it feels like to experience loss.
From time to time, we all face challenges that can be overwhelming. Sometimes these challenges are situational, but they can also be the result of our lived experience(s) over time. Often they manifest as anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and self harm. These manifestations can lead to further challenges such as job loss, family conflict, isolation, and addiction. Although we may flounder or experience failure, we can develop the strategies needed to live a flourishing life. Integrative therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Positive Psychotherapy, and Solution Focused Therapy teach us how to live well.

I work with a variety of individuals, and gravitate towards adults who want to address the impacts of trauma, oppression, grief and end of life.
Trauma can affect our relationships and our sense of who we are, but we do not need to stay stuck in distress. Working to find a sense of meaning, reconnecting with the truth of our present moment, and untangling unhelpful narratives can help us reconnect with our authentic selves, making space for greater healing.

Are you feeling lost or overwhelmed or stuck? Have you experienced trauma or loss? Is anxiety impacting your daily life? Do you find yourself asking “Who am I?” or “What do I want my life to be?” I can offer you a calm and quiet space where I use an integrative approach to therapy, drawing on many different strategies to meet the unique needs of each individual. Art is a powerful tool that I use sometimes to help clients express and accept feelings; to explore a sense of self; and to reduce stress. Mindfulness, nature-based therapies, and a trauma-informed approach are also part of my practice.

Grief Counsellors
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
