I am passionate about working with clients that struggle with anxiety, grief, and life transitions. These experiences often invoke a feeling of being stuck; not knowing how to move forward. This leads to feeling overwhelmed and alone. I use a warm, gentle and strength-based approach. I believe that clients are the experts on their own life. I help them to process blocked emotions and provide tools to help them thrive. I believe that every human being strives for and has the capacity to fulfill their own potential. My purpose is to help my clients feel understood and empowered to achieve their mental health goals.

Having helped clients in many areas of counselling and psychotherapy and with most age groups over the past 20 years, my experience is broad and deep. Clients often come to me experiencing heartbreak, confusion, exhaustion, brain fog, and rumination due to grief. When they are struggling to cope with their loss and how different the world feels and they are tired of trying to explain how they feel because many people in their lives don't understand. I get it. As a therapist and a griever, I know what it’s like to try to cope in a world that has been shattered while everyone else goes about their daily lives like nothing has happened. I offer compassionate, down-to-earth sessions where you can share your grief. You don't have to do this alone.

Since everyone handles grief in their own unique way, our work together will include a wide variety of therapeutic techniques chosen specifically for you.
One of the most exciting aspects of life is that it is always changing, yet this can also be one of our biggest challenges. Life's transitional moments can be difficult as they can cause stress, uncertainty and confusion and can often lead to feelings of grief and loss. It can make us question ourselves and others and may overwhelm us into inaction. The picture of what we had expected our future to look like changes and we are left with a variety of emotions and no plan forward. I believe that having someone to talk to through these tough times is so helpful. I am grateful to be that person for my clients.

I imagine my client with their therapist as pioneers in their journey. Whether it is grief, transition, relationships or trauma. As pioneers, we explore, travel, and come to discovery. This discovery may help an individual to work on goals, their growth, treatment and healing. This self discovery is simply facilitated by the therapist and lead by the client.

I have a particular focus on grief and working with parents, children, adolescents, and families.
I am a narrative trained therapist who believes in collaboration, curiosity, and respect. When dilemmas and obstacles grow big enough, they can come to dominate our lives, pulling us towards dark ideas and stories in which we can feel hopeless, lost, scared, and disconnected. It is my aim as a therapist to work with clients to identify the challenges in their lives and explore how to move into more spaces of joy and preferred ways of living.

Hi, I'm Scott! I have spent the past 18 years in Vancouver as a therapist working with children, youth, families and adults struggling with mental health issues, substance use, trauma, anger, grief, as well as isolation and disconnection. I have volunteered working with young offenders in the prison system, and with suicidal individuals through the services of the Vancouver Crisis Centre. Connectedness plays an important role in both my personal and professional life. At times, finding similar thoughts and opinions has helped me feel human. Other times, seeking different ideas and people has helped open my mind to new possibilities.

I am a certified Life Coach and Registered Professional Counsellor, specializing in loss and grief counselling and I am the founder of Village Grief Counselling here in Vancouver.
It has been for too long that we have not given ourselves permission to fully grieve our losses. Whether it is a fear that allowing the grief to be experienced will be too much to bear, or the belief that we don't have as bad a situation as others, there are many reasons that we don't allow ourselves to grieve fully after our losses. This unprocessed grief will affect us, mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Together, we will explore resources around and within you to honor your grief and move through it. Village Grief Counselling is an oasis for individuals experiencing loss.

Grief Counsellors
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
