Dominant discourses impact our daily lives. They construct normative, 'tellable' stories, marginalizing and invalidating others. We are each the expert on our own life, with our own embodied ways of knowing. Sometimes disconnections between lived experiences and the meanings imposed on them become overwhelming. I invite and hold space for subjugated stories as a therapeutic form of resistance.
Possibilities and meanings that were once obscured can become available in relationship. As a therapist, I am here to co-create conversations that generate new understandings. I ask questions that challenge dominant discourses and collaborate in exploring the effects of problems.
I approach mental health as a social justice issue. Structural barriers shape how we move in the world and how we experience harm and healing. Power structures find their way into our innermost moments. I am interested in how these moments also become sites of liberation and transformation.
