Her true passion is to support you, your partner & your family to create new neuro pathways that will free you, bringing more connection, joy, well being & fun.
It was through her own personal journey that Trish came to find her expertise as a Somatic Psychotherapist; helping individuals, couples and families step into balance, health and connection so that they can live in joy, vibrancy and passion! After full recovery from a skiing accident that had her in a wheel chair for months, she began to feel uptight all the time, depressed, had unhealthy eating patterns, an autoimmune diagnosis, and disconnect in her marriage. She had forgotten all about joy, vibrance & passion or how to even reach for those things. If you have ever experienced these feelings & lack connection, Trish can help.

I am a Registered Social Worker and Registered Marriage and Family Therapist. I help couples heal from affairs/infidelity, heal from addictions and chronic health issues, and improve conflict management. I work with couples who want to rebuild their relationships and those who simply want to learn how to bring their best selves into relationships (e.g. premarital counselling). I also help single people learn to improve their relationship skills. In therapy, we work together on mastering communication skills, but also on building better friendships, and helping couples build meaningful lives together.

My desire to serve the community in which I grew up in, has always been important to me. I have worked at overdose prevention sites, harm reduction residential facilities, suicide crisis lines, and employment family assistance program (EFAP). It’s been a privilege to work with such a diverse range of clients. Having lived experience as a first responder, I am aware of how trauma can profoundly impact the mind and body.

Sometimes life can feel hectic and overwhelming. Whether you're experiencing depression, anxiety, loneliness, addiction, divorce, injustice, stagnant decision-making, lack of coping, grief or loss, I am here to help. You seek harmony, you seek emotional equilibrium, and most of all you seek peace. I understand the intense difficulties of life you may be facing, and can help you shift from a place of suffering to a place of rational calm to help you manouvre through the storm you are feeling. In the words of Rumi, "Do not feel lonely, the entire universe is inside you," and I can help you find new opportunities to feel better.

Your current circumstances don't dictate where you'll end up. They serve as a starting point for change. We all have the potential to move forward, sometimes having support is the key to getting there. My counselling approach is collaborative and straightforward with a touch of humour. Using a blend of your personal experiences and life context with evidence-based practices such as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and family systems we pinpoint your strengths and build positive coping skills to help you reach your goals.

Children and Parents need counselling to protect them during this stressfull family changes.
Psychotherapy is the confidential process where you can get insight from an experienced registered Psychologist in understanding how life-stressors can interfere with your thinking patterns, feelings, beliefs, needs, behaviour and relationships. Prolonged exposure to stress, unhappiness, conflict, trauma, abuse or problematic relationships can lead to anxiety, depression, grief, anger or other behavioural problems. Brain research clearly indicated that early psychological intervention can prevent mental and physical illnesses. Clients now have the opportunity to be proactive and learn the skills on how to protect their mental health, restore their competence and happiness and develop a strong sense of well-being and resiliency.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
