We will unpack the present stressors in your life, as well as factors that may be contributing, including childhood family dynamics, intergenerational trauma, and systemic oppression.
Have you been wishing things felt different? Maybe you haven't felt understood or accepted in your friendships or relationships. Maybe you're going through a breakup, the death of a loved one, or job loss. Or maybe you've been struggling to feel happy, even when things seem to be going well. Do you want to better understand where your emotions are coming from, why they have such a hold on you, and how to feel better? Are you curious to explore your early childhood experiences that influenced how you learned to be in the world, and whether those adaptations are still working for you today?

I help older persons and their family caregivers to navigate the aging journey and care systems, so that you may experience inner peace and embrace this turbulent voyage with hope and meaning.
Do you find that your aging parent is very difficult to care for? Have you noticed your emotions being easily triggered by their actions or comments? Are you having difficult conversations with your family about their care? Taking care of an aging parent can be very emotionally draining but it can also be an opportunity for inner healing, reconciliation, and growth.

I will take feedback regularly about your experience of therapy and adjust the approach based on your needs, integrating person-centered, emotion-focused, mindfulness/compassion-based, internal family systems, and somatic modalities to support your growth.
In my practice, I provide a supportive space where we can explore your unique journey, helping you to get to a place of understanding and self-compassion. I believe this is the most reliable foundation on which to pursue change, which might include increasing your ability to manage difficult emotions and thoughts, improving your connection with others, working through past experiences, or making important life choices based on your values.

The reality is that every life is full of ups and downs. Our challenge in the short time each of us has on this planet is to make the most of it by relishing in the ups – and working through the downs so we can come out on the other side as a better, happier and more enlightened person. Which is where I come in. I’m a registered social worker, psychotherapist. I am also a lawyer who formerly practiced family law for almost 10 years. My passion as a therapist is to help people live their authentic life and make sense of the challenges they encounter along the way.

Hi all, welcome to my profile! As a Black woman who grew up in a low income family I'm incredibly passionate about ensuring marginalized populations are provided with inclusive and accessible mental health support. What makes me feel fulfilled is dismantling the barriers individuals experience that prevent them from accessing services. As a result, I use a sliding scale to reduce financial barriers and offer virtual morning, evening, weekend sessions to make counselling easier to fit into your schedule. I feel honoured to support you through your most difficult emotions and I will walk through them with you to brighter days.

Are you feeling stuck? Are you going through a life transition? Do you want something different for yourself or for your relationships? Find ways to move toward a healthier place in a way that fits for you. Friends and family can be supportive; but, meeting with someone outside of these groups can lead to new insights, perspectives and change. Seeking counselling is a helpful way to get you where you want to be.

Some reasons people seek treatment: Emotional distress - Relationships, Family, Work Abuse - physical and/or sexual Substance abuse or Addiction Eating disorders and/or Body image problems Anxiety - Phobia - Panic Personality disorders Depression or mood change Sexual and/or Marriage-Relationship difficulties Life management - Stress management Career planning Help with decision making, good choices Reality checks.
Any of us may become scared or frustrated by events in our lives. Sometimes parts of our lives just don't seem to be working out. We may become unhappy and come to an impasse. It is inevitable that we come face to face with a crisis of illness or loss. Some may have experienced a relationship breakdown or disturbing dreams and memories. Any one of these can make life seem overwhelming. Even when we find the courage to admit what's happening, those closest to us are not equipped to help us. At these times it is often helpful to talk with a therapist

My approach is psychodynamic, client-centred and collaborative. Together, within a safe and supportive relationship, we will explore and develop insight into the ways past experiences and factors outside awareness may shape how you think, feel about yourself, engage in relationships and cope with challenges. This offers opportunities for new ways of responding to current concerns, a better relationship with yourself and others, and movement towards a more satisfying life.

I employ Western and Eastern modalities - CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy), Psychodynamic Therapy, Gestalt, Internal Family Systems, Energy Psychology - Yoga, Reiki, Mindfulness and Meditation.
Providing a balance of support and challenge, my approach to healing is holistic and comprehensive. I believe that each individual has all of the inner resources they need to achieve a sense of balance and equanimity. My role is merely to provide a safe, non-judgmental container in which they can reach their own integration - cognitively, emotionally and somatically. I aim to assist the individual's journey-making process through offering new ways at looking through the lens which often gets obscured by many mitigating factors. Clarity is the goal.

I can help you process emotions and give you tools to cope with cultural identity conflicts, trauma, disordered eating, perfectionism, body image issues, family conflict and career stress.
Accepting new clients. If you are a woman from a cultural group that silenced emotions, you may feel isolated, lost or shame around your experiences. Being told to keep silent. Growing up in a chaotic home. You may have been body-shamed. Or experienced trauma that your culture may overlook. You may have depression that can't be talked about with your loved ones. You may experience stress with eating, your health, body or career. Or perhaps even able to pinpoint WHERE your distress is coming from! I'd love to help you explore, label, and resolve what you're going through.

I have a special interest in working with individuals who present with diverse issues, including trauma, divorce, parenting issues, family life cycle transitions, grief, stress, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, addictions, personality disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder and codependence.
We all have a unique journey that adds value to who we are and how we can contribute every day. My personal journey took me down some challenging paths that required me to find new hope and build from the ground up. I feel that the hardships, challenges and triumphs I have endured can inspire and bring hope to others. I believe that through the toughest times of our lives, there is always a silver lining.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
