I specialize in perinatal mental health, family systems, somatic therapy, and trauma-informed cognitive behavioural therapy.
Hi I’m Jamie. Are you feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, alone? Let's navigate your feelings together. In today’s world, I believe that we too often focus on what we believe our weaknesses to be and ignore what makes us unique or acknowledge that it is okay to not be okay. We will focus on these pieces through our sessions. Everyone’s journey to wellness is deeply personal and I hope to create a realistic path for movement forward.

I use an eclectic approach to therapy but primarily draw from Narrative therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Family Systems Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
My name is Arevik (Air-ah-vick) and I would like to help you find a clear path to the complex journey that you are currently on. Sometimes our lives can become foggy with life transitions, extra responsibilities, social and familial pressures... At times it can simply feel too much. We may start feeling overwhelmed, lost, and unmotivated about our next steps. Working harder does not seem to do the trick and soon, we end up burning out and feeling hopeless. I am here to guide you towards a more manageable path, one that feels more inviting.

I believe that while family and friends are great to have as support, sometimes it's refreshing to speak with a professional who will provide a non-judgmental, listening ear.
I have a special interest in marriage/relationship counselling as well as working with individuals ages 14+. While my formal education and on-going training provides a strong foundation for working with clients of all ages, it is my relationship with my partner and parenting our teenagers (18 and 15) that greatly influences me as a counsellor and allows me to better understand the ups and downs that accompany relationships and parenting.

I have over a decade of experience working with children, youth and families around various issues including family relationships/conflict, parenting support, anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief.
Experiencing challenges in different areas of our lives is a human experience, and some of us find ourselves needing support as we navigate these difficulties. As a clinician, I believe that people are the experts in their own lives and have within them the strength and the capacity to enact change. I see that my role as a therapist is to help empower people to begin making those changes, to write their own life stories, to explore their own values and beliefs about how the world works, and to develop authentic fulfilling relationships.

You are overthinking, worrying, having difficulty sleeping, and unsure how to control your emotions. Symptoms of anxiety can cause you to shut down due to an increase of distress in your body. Please reach out if you’d like to know more, or to explore whether I would be a good fit for you or your family member.
Life is hard! We may be faced with challenges from the time we are young, and sometimes the struggles come later in life. Sometimes we lose ourselves along the way. You are the expert on your own life, and whether you are working to heal from a past trauma, trying to improve your relationship skills, overcome struggles with anxiety or depression, increase your sense of self-worth, dealing with a loss, or just working to find yourself again. I can help!

Sometimes we all need someone who can provide an objective viewpoint, outside of friends and family.
People go to therapy for many reasons, and all of them are equally valid. Whatever your reason is, I am so glad that you are here. You may be considering therapy right now because you are feeling stuck - stuck in difficult thoughts, feelings, emotions, behaviours, relationships, and/or situations. Or, you may be mostly doing fine and want to develop self-awareness and understanding to become the best version of yourself and to live your life to the fullest.

I can support in various concerns including: trauma, abuse, neglect, attachment challenges and other mental health concerns, as well as family related issues, divorce or separation, and grief and loss.
I am honoured to support people in finding their path to healing. I believe that we have our own capacity to move through difficult times and know that taking this step can be pretty tricky. My approach is gentle and fairly eclectic, I tend to use the modality that best suits the clients needs with an attachment based lens. I tend to focus on play therapy and emotion focused therapies with children as well as utilize some dyad work. With adults I tend to use EMDR, trauma processing, solution focused therapy, person centred and emotion focussed therapy modalities. I offer a free 15 minute consultation to ensure I am the right fit.

Are you or someone in your family struggling with anxiety, fragile self-esteem or low mood? Does it seem like it started off small but feels like it is escalating and you are unsure of how to help them or yourself? Growing up can be hard. Many children and teens today face increased anxiety, social challenges, learning difficulties, depression, loss or family challenges like divorce or illness of a parent or loved one. In adulthood, the challenges may look different, but age does not shield us from the challenges caused by career pressures, overwhelm or blows to our confidence.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
