My training is primarily in Gestalt therapy, but I have also studied Emotion Focused Therapy ( EFT), Mindfulness and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
Underneath your lack of energy and motivation , anger and shame, low self esteem, indecision and anxiety, there are feelings that need to be explored. How we create interest and curiosity, is and will be the foundation of future possibilities and choices. I will provide the support you need to start this journey and then will challenge you and offer new choices in a way that empowers you. Once trust is developed through our work together and you start to see new possibilities, you will join me with curiosity to challenge old patterns . I am available for both online as well as in person sessions at my office on St Clair Avenue.

My work is trauma-informed and I draw from Emotion-Focussed Therapy ( EFT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
I offer individual, couple, and family psychotherapy. My therapeutic stance is one of respect and active engagement. I like to explore resiliency, knowledge, aspirations and resources so you and I can have conversations that highlight what is going well while gently redirecting thinking and behavioural patterns that may be interfering with your capacity to feel connected to yourself and others. Whether this is solo or partnered endeavour, you will be able to gain clarity of your personal needs, develop self-compassion and acceptance, and uncover new bonding possibilities, and ways to maintain emotional connections.

And I have training in Emotionally Focussed Therapy ( EFT), an effective model of therapy for working with couples consistent with both my relational work and my philosophy background.
I see individuals and couples in my practice. In both cases, the therapeutic relationship is a place in which you (or you and your partner) can feel understood and heard, and where you can know again that you matter. Therapy is at once simple - it provides you a space to talk about all the things you've been feeling and thinking; and yet it is also more - it is an experience of trust and of growth out of which transformation is indeed possible. Even in times when change seems impossible or out of reach, there is hope through the therapeutic connection.

I have gained expertise through externships, certificate training, and years of practice in a wide range of modalities including Narrative therapy, Solution-focused, IFS, EFT, and Humanistic person centred approaches.
Sometimes it feels like problems are all around us. These problems can become so loud that we can’t hear anything else. Sometimes these problems have stories to tell us about not being good enough, not measuring up to others, or that the problem is really me. These problem stories lead us into depression, anxiety, stress, and relationship conflict. In Individual therapy we will explore the problem stories of your life, understand how they got to be so loud, and use lots of tools and techniques to quiet these stories down. At the same time we will be discovering all the glimmers of hope-filled stories of healing.

Emotionally Focused Counsellors

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
