As a Registered Counsellor and a Certified Trauma Professional , I am passionate about helping individuals who have experienced traumatic events and adverse childhood experiences. Trauma, abuse, neglect, and growing up with emotionally unavailable or emotionally immature caregivers can take a toll on our soul. Many of my clients bear the weight of these experiences, facing trauma-related symptoms such as depression, anxiety, anger, low self-esteem, and a pervasive feeling of numbness and emptiness. Many of my clients also feel exhausted by the constant negative patterns of thinking and behavior in their day to day lives.

Have you found yourself feeling overwhelmed, spending your days anxious or depressed? Perhaps you've received unhelpful advice, read self-help books, or tried to power through. People are hard-wired for connection, and we heal through relationships. Therapy can be a safe place to develop connection, heal childhood wounds, rewire your nervous system, accept yourself, and experience more joy and confidence. I use what I've learned on my own healing journey, as well as from my professional experience, to help others develop a happier, more meaningful life and better relationships.

For many of us in the LGBTQ2S+ family, we carry shame, loneliness, and anxiety beneath our pride parades. We have lost communities that provided meaning to us, whether families or faith communities. We internalized messages that we are wrong, broken, or unloveable. Sometimes we mask these negative feelings with a big personality, and sometimes we isolate and hide ourselves from others. This leaves us vulnerable when crises occur. Reaching out for support is the first step towards feeling seen, understood, and connected to meaningful relationships.

In today's fast-paced world, so many of us feel buried under constant demands and pressures. This often leads to feelings of worry, confusion, and a lingering sense of emptiness. If you're finding the weight of it all a bit too much, searching for balance and a clearer understanding, remember you're definitely not alone in this. Life's twists and turns can be really challenging, but they also give us a chance to learn, grow, and become stronger. By tackling these challenges, we can find our personal path, reconnect with what truly matters, and get in touch with our inner self.

As you consider if therapy might be a supportive choice for you, it is possible that you are feeling alone and yearn for a more authentic connection with yourself and others. You might find that your emotions feel unpredictable, overwhelming or perhaps you feel disconnected from them altogether. I believe that we all have the capacity for healing and growth. Through connection to ourselves, our bodies, and our communities we can begin to undo experiences of aloneness and rebuild a sense of safety and ease. My role is to hold a space where you can show up just as you are, assured that you will be met with care and compassion.

My desire to serve the community in which I grew up in, has always been important to me. I have worked at overdose prevention sites, harm reduction residential facilities, suicide crisis lines, and employment family assistance program (EFAP). It’s been a privilege to work with such a diverse range of clients. Having lived experience as a first responder, I am aware of how trauma can profoundly impact the mind and body. I utilize a blend of evidence-based practices including humanistic culturally responsive and socially just approaches (CRSJ). I specialize in addiction, relationships, trauma, anxiety and depression.

I believe everyone deserves the space to explore what it means to be unapologetically you. Imagine, just for once, giving your own thoughts the same consideration that you give to the perspective of others. No cross referencing what the popular opinion is, or constraining yourself to keep others comfortable. No more dismissing your feelings or classifying them as “too much”, “not normal”, or “nonsensical.” No more relying on what you were told to believe. It’s time to really figure out things for yourself. It’s time to scribble outside of the lines to discover the real picture.

Reduced-fee spots currently available to those who can demonstrate need. … Negative life experiences not only affect a person individually, but relationally as well. Survivors can begin to experience issues with trust, communication and closeness that often create a pattern of distancing in order to avoid conflict. From my years of training and experience, both personally and professionally, I believe in the power of reconnecting with the self and others to heal.

I love working with clients who are ready to change, even if they are not sure what they want to change yet. I enjoy helping people define what a good, or better life would look like for them, and exploring - and, conquering - blocks to achieving this. Sometimes, this involves going backwards, and exploring past patterns/systems. Other times, it's about moving forward. We define this, together. I welcome all to work with me. As a mixed race (Jamaican/German), BIPOC queer, and non-binary therapist, I love serving members of my community. I enjoy helping people overcome blocks to creativity & business. I offer somatic therapy

With so many stressors in the world, it is easy to feel alone and uncertain of who you are or want to be. Therapy provides a space for discovery and connection. Discovery of how certain ways of understanding our place in the world emerged, and of how small shifts can help connect us with our authentic self, desires and values. My job is to help create a safe space where it is possible for you to be yourself in the fullest sense – even if you don’t quite know who that is yet. So, come to therapy as you are. Anxious. Excited. Messy. Sad. Confused. Tired. Changing. There is nothing you can’t be and can’t feel in our sessions together.

Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
