My eclectic and person-centred approach draws heavily on evidence-based scientific modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Trauma (EMDR, CPT, ACT & ART), Positive Psychology, Existential-Humanistic, and Relational-Cultural Theory.
Navigating the different pathways of life can be challenging, and often, no one understands your story, and you may feel lost in figuring things out on your own. I am here to SUPPORT you because you haven't come this far to stay stuck here! Like Michael Jordan, "Obstacles do not have to stop you. You don't turn around and give up if you run into a wall. You figure out how to climb, go through, or work around it." As an experienced therapist, I can challenge you to become the best version of yourself by creating a customized treatment plan to help you achieve optimal mental health. I am accepting NEW Clients (individuals & couples).

I offer therapies such as dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), EMDR, and for couples, the world-famous Gottman Method.
Navigating life can be difficult, especially when you’re in new territory. Feelings of depression or anxiety can spiral into more fears and doubts. Being a young adult brings all sorts of pressure, and most of us don’t get much education in how to make that transition. It’s common to cope by avoiding, using drugs or alcohol, or isolating. Fortunately, things can improve. Life may never be perfect, but you can learn new skills and effective ways of dealing with challenges. I work with teens and adults of all ages, and specialize in helping young adults and couples who want to feel more confident, accepted, and joyful in the world.

I use a variety of resilience-building therapeutic approaches such as Dialectical-Behavioural (DBT), Cognitive-Behavioural (CBT), Emotion Focused (EFT) and Motivational Interviewing.
If there is a magic word for change, it is resilience. Resilience is the capacity to grow despite misfortune, gaining strength from challenges rather than surrendering to them. It really is a vital life-skill and the best news is that resilience can be learned! That's a bonus, given that we cannot have complete control of our lives. Observing the positive effects of such resilience, I became more interested in helping others gain this capacity. There really is nobody quite like you and my task is to work with your individuality. This is why I focus on building your future strength. https://www.centrepsychotherapy.ca/

APPROACH TO HELPING: Life on this planet can be hard. There are ups and downs; pluses and minuses; stops and starts; joys and sorrows. Flux and flow. We all live within that and, sometimes, we need help managing. The right therapy can help rebuild a foundation solid enough to begin creating a life that feels right, for you, according to your values. A place to safely process, redefine and reframe. A place to learn the tools to rebuild, manage and accept everything that comes your way, using the theories, practices and protocols of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment, Interpersonal and Emotion-Focussed models.

I draw from evidence-based practices that include cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), mindfulness practice, trauma informed practice including dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).
I consider it a privilege every single time someone welcomes me to share in their therapeutic process. My intention is to bring authenticity, empathy and non-judgemental guidance to the room. I believe that therapy is a very personal experience for each of my clients, so I try to enter the therapeutic relationship as a 'clean slate', free of judgement or any agenda other than what they want or need in their healing. In my practice, I work from an anti-oppressive, client-focused, strength-based framework and believe that therapy is a collaborative process and that you are the expert of your experience.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Counsellors

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
