I am trained in, and use elements of CBT/ DBT, mindfulness, strengths based and solution focused therapy in my practice.
Hi there. Are you feeling overwhelmed? Maybe feeling stuck or that your thoughts are all tangled up? Do you feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders? Like you're not doing enough? It's okay, I have been in your shoes, too. As a first generation Chinese Canadian, I understand that sometimes things feel like they are out of control and the need to make sure everyone else is taken care of is a higher priority than ourselves. With your trust, let's work together to set healthy boundaries, untangle those thoughts, and taking care of yourself without feelings of guilt.

Cognitive and dialectical behaviour therapy, family of origin and psychodynamic perspectives, mindfulness, and solution-focused are the modalities that I work from.
In 2017 my heart led me into the field of mental health counselling. After going through my own journey I knew that making a difference in the lives of those whose suffer was what I wanted to do. As a licensed Clinical Mental Health Counsellor I am here to tell you that you are not alone, that there is hope, and that with dedication and consistency you can improve your life. Receiving my training at the Caron Organization in Florida my specialities include working with mood and anxiety disorders, depression, substance abuse, disordered eating, family and relationship strain, and life transitions.

To help my clients deal with life challenges and meet their potentials,  I use various evidence-based psychotherapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy ( DBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), and clinical traumatology.
Life is a journey full of ups and downs, twists and turns. So, of course, we all stumble, fall, or get off track along the way. The reasons are numerous, and the stumbles and falls can sometimes feel extremely painful. We can feel confused, stressed, discouraged, and sad. We are all human, and we all need someone to help us along the journey. Let me walk with you and begin the journey to health and healing.

I am trained in emotion-focused, cognitive-behavioural, humanistic, DBT, and mindfulness approaches.
As a psychologist, I work with change. Change may involve shifts in awareness, attitude, behaviour, goals, acceptance, or coping strategies that will enhance your quality of life and well-being. Many obstacles can prevent us from living a satisfying life. These could be a history of trauma, invalidating relationships, habits that no longer serve us, or environments that may hinder our psychological growth. I can help you identify obstacles to your quality of life, develop strategies to tackle them, and set goals to increase and maintain your well-being.

I use a mix of evidence-based therapies, but specialize in DBT and CBT.
It can be hard to know whom or what to trust when making decisions about the well-being of your child. With over 14 years of clinical experience, it is my goal to offer hope, relief and direction when children and teens face social-emotional challenges and families feel off balance. I use up-to-date, evidence-based therapies in a structured, goal-oriented approach to alleviate mental health stress. I focus on building strong therapeutic relationships, collaborating with families to meet therapy goals and encouraging the development of positive coping skills to carry forward into the future.

I strongly believe that everyone can benefit from the skills taught through DBT.
Do you struggle with your emotions? Do you experience either intense emotions (e.g. guilt, sadness, anger) or suppressed emotions? Dialectical Behaviour Therapy ( DBT) has been demonstrated to help regulate emotions. DBT can help calm emotional storms, increase enjoyable emotions and experiences, decrease unhelpful behaviours and coping strategies, and foster and improve positive relationships. Imagine what your life would be like if you had more balanced emotions, clear thinking even in challenging situations, and fulfilling relationships with others.

There are 4 components in our comprehensive DBT program at &therapy.
Our comprehensive DBT program is committed to providing compassionate & effective treatment for individuals who may experience intense emotions (such as anxiety, depression, anger, shame, guilt), impulsive behaviours (such as self-harm, suicide, stealing, substance use, risky behaviours), & stormy relationships (which could look like switching between pushing people away & clinging to them, challenges with saying no). We also offer trauma treatment through Prolonged Exposure- DBT and/or Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) because many of the current day experiences, emotions & views of the world, are based on previous experiences.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Counsellors

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
