I am also trained in Dialectical Behavioral therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Narrative Therapy.
Sometimes it’s hard to notice when things aren't going well. It might be subtle signs that pop up at the end of the day. You feel like the day is going well and you’re keeping busy. But as soon as you have a moment of silence, your mind starts to cycle through things that you just don't want to think about. Do you find it hard to sit still and be at peace in these moments? Do you distract yourself as much as possible just so you don’t listen to your own thoughts? Maybe you have a hard time completing any of your important tasks? These are all normal reactions. Signals that your body is giving you to pay attention to.

Integrating various evidenced-based approaches, including CBT, DBT, and mindfulness strategies, we work together so that you can experience the long-term improvements that you are seeking.
It can be difficult to reach out and start therapy. It is important to find a psychologist who is warm and supportive and also has the training and experience to help you understand and resolve your difficulties. I have been a Registered Psychologist for almost twenty years. I have worked with teens and adults to address a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, anger, chronic pain, and the sequalae from traumatic brain injury. We will work together so that you can fully understand the nature of your symptoms, focus on your strengths, and learn new tools to address the problems that you are experiencing.

At times I will use DBT and somatic frameworks.
Currently you may feel as if you are in a place of hopelessness, depression, experiencing feelings of being overwhelmed with few resources to draw upon for help. Collaborative through counselling and/or art therapy we can explore and rediscover your internal resources finding your inner resilience and strength; exploring answers to your feelings, inner turmoil and questions. Answers you might seek are how do I deal with the pit in my stomach, or why do I feel so anxious all the time and why can’t I sleep through the night; what is my body trying to tell me?

I often weave narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy into our practice.
I believe therapy goes beyond just talk, a chance to explore parts of ourselves that have been shut away in order to make it through the day. If you choose, I would love to start this journey with you and explore what is needed to work towards healing and growth.

The people I work with often tell me they experience intense, difficult emotions that are hard to control, often leading to harmful coping behaviours and relationship turmoil. Taking a behavioural approach, we work together to develop strategies and tools that support a more fulfilling life—what is referred to in DBT as a "life experienced as worth living.” Wellness tools and strategies we use are informed by DBT, ACT, CBT, mindfulness, and narrative therapy, but I believe it is the trusting and supportive relationship we build that forms the foundation upon which this challenging yet rewarding work is done.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Counsellors
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
